Test Drove Both....Just some impressions

The other day I had a few hours to spare so I went to one of the local chevy dealerships to take a test drive, I passed a ford dealership on the way (200ft down the road from the chevy dealer). So I decided to take a Mustang out for a test as well.

I tried to stay mostly open minded and impartial and here are some of my impressions.

Fist drive; 2011 Camaro 2LT non-RS RJT Auto

-If I was buying, It would have to have the RS package..
-Can't get a sunroof, my head brushes the roof with the sunroof there
-Very comfortable seats, I could spend all day in them.
-visibility was harsh, It would take me a little while to adjust. (I'm 6'1" BTW)
-Love the sound, For a V6 it sounds great.
-Rides very smooth, best ride i've experienced.
-Plenty powerful for the average joe.
-LOVE the HUD, I would definitly use it.
-Tap shift was fun, adds to the sporty nature.
-The interior was solid and I love the design more the more time I spend in it.
-I actually like the shape of the steering wheel, I have big hands and it fits well.
-It's worth mentioning that i've driven a SS before so some of this is old hat and I'm leaving out some things i like about the car and just commenting on this experience.

Second Drive; 2011 Mustang V6 premium Convertable Auto

-Price was crazy. 37+ I was suffering a little bit of sticker shock
-Tons of features, Adjustable gauge colors, ambient lighting, Nav, This thing was loaded
-Much better visability
-Sound was meager compared to the Camaro
-Seats were good, less sporty but still very good
-Boring interior, even with the Nav and all the options I was bored looking at it
-Sync was pretty cool (she demo'd it for me)
-It felt less powerful, Not sure it was, but definetly felt less responsive.
-Ride was noticably rougher. the rear bounces when going over small bumps and such, something I didn't even notice in the camaro. ( I test drove them on the same back road, the dealerships were practically next door to each other.)
-I noticed more road noise on the highway, Probably due to it being a convertable.

After it was all said and done I'm definitly sticking with the camaro ( I had my mind set already lol). I can truly appreciate the different direction each car is going. Both cars had different things to offer and not one was far superior to the other; they are just different.

Thanks for listening,

Nick

37,000+ ???? Holy cow!

Did it have the stock gearing or optional lower gearing....I'm guessing it was the higher gearing?

when I drove all three (Camaro, Mustang, Challenger) the ford guys were definately ready to deal the price down, this was on a 2011 GT, so I know there is a ton of room on the pricing in the Mustang.

I actually thought the GT rode nice and sounded great. I won't say anything bad about the Mustang or Challenger, but I am going with the Camaro as well.

I didn't test drive the mustang but looked hard at them before landing my camaro. I didn't like the v6 wheels at all and I think they ruined the rear end of the car. I liked the front end a little better but the back looks like ass without a big spoiler to camoflage it some. the trunk opening sucked the same as the camaro so it was a wash there but the interior seemed small to me compared to a camaro.

Yea, I sort of agree. In the camaro, I feel small; In the mustang, it feels small

Not sure of the gearing. And yes 37K+ I was thinking, "for that money I could get a fully loaded SS"

I was honestly very surprised, But It was optioned as far as it could be I think. It had larger wheels, all the electronic goodies, it was a convertable, and it had other exterior add-ons as well like a billit aluminum grill. And I was reading the price right off the window sticker, MSRP

Something is wrong here locally. The best I can do is $34k for a premium (leather interior pkg) 2011 5.0 or a 2011 1SS Camaro, and that's with Ford X-Plan and GM Supplier discounts factored in. Good grief, a low mileage C6 can be had for the same price.

O and

Good read.. I compared both before buying my SS.. One thing I will say is I think if you take the time to adjust the seat correctly you will not have any issues with the Sunroof model. I have a Sunroof in mine and I'm 6'2" and I have about 2" between the top of my head and the roof.

Your probably right. Once i got it adjusted it wasn't terrible, i still felt the the roof was a little too close, though. It would only take maybe an inch to solve it.
