2010 OnStar Firmware Update

OnStar has been having trouble getting diagnostic reports from my car, which is not the point of this thread. In their attempts to get a vehicle diagnostic, they reprogrammed my OnStar unit. They just had me press the blue OnStar button and tech support reprogrammed it while the car sat in my driveway.

The new program seems to have added/improved a feature. The onboard phone book can now be used for bluetooth dialing. In the past I had to say "Bluetooth", "Voice", then my Android phone would prompt me to say "Call Joe Shmoe at home."

Now I can bluetooth call using the onboard phone book, which greatly reduces the number of voice commands. I can simply press the button and say "Call Joe Shmoe," where Joe Shmoe is a saved contact on my OnStar account. I can also say "Dial 800-555-1212."

Just a heads up for anyone that hadn't realized that the OnStar firmware has been updated.

I could always say "Call Joe Shmoe" through Bluetooth with my Droid and the onboard phone book.

I have a 2LT and press my steering wheel phone button for this. Maybe the update provides this feature to the 1SS and 1LT models.

The 1SS and 1LT models don't include bluetooth support. I replaced my OnStar module with another one. I was never able to do this when I first installed the unit. But i don't know how old of a car my OnStar unit came from.

I didn't think the 1SS had bluetooth... isn't that part of the convenience/PDIM package that isn't available on the 1SS?

Ok. Maybe it was a phone update, i was wrong, or I got an ancient OnSar unit. either way, I'm happy I can cut half of the voice commands out of my phone calls.

How do you have bluetooth in a 1SS? That option isn't available from the factory...

He said 1LT. For some insane reason, Chevy doesn't offer connectivity pkg on 1SS.

I have to do the "Bluetooth" and "Voice" command thing too. My car was built in January. I wonder if some of you have newer firmware than I do?

See if the other method works for you now. If not, see if you can get OnStar to reprogram your unit (assuming your sub is still valid) and try it again. I would like to believe that I'm not crazy.

The problem I had was that all of my phone numbers are in my cell phone and I want to use those. I didn't want to have to program them in to the car's phone book. Is there an easy way to do that? (I know, I know, RTFM!)

Also, I wasn't 100% sure I was using my cell phone to make the call. I don't want to use the car's phone when I'm already paying for a cell phone.
