GM Certified Worth It?

Hello- I'm new here, and I don't own a Camaro (yet). I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO that I bought new, but I've been bitten by the Camaro bug after seeing the new ones up close and personal. I've priced SS's and 2LT's online at a few different dealers in my area. A brand new SS is just more than I can afford, and I don't like the idea of going from a V8 in my GTO to a V6 in a 2LT. So I've been looking online at used SS's. I have found two in my general area that I'm interested in- both are 2010s, inferno orange in color. SS#1 is priced at 34,900, has 7000 miles, has had two owners, and is GM Certified. SS#2 is priced at $31,900, has only 2400 miles, has one owner, but is not GM Certified. It's on a Dodge dealer's lot because the owner decided to trade it for a Dodge truck. Both Carfaxes check out fine, for what it's worth. I haven't been to look at/drive either one yet because they're not real close to my home, and I just haven't had the time, but I have been in email contact with both dealers.

Does anyone here think that being GM Certified is worth the extra $3000 for SS#1? The dealer might come down some on price, but I doubt that he'll come down $3000. I'm leaning toward checking out SS#2 first. Let me know what you think, or any experience with "GM Certified." Thanks!

With only 2400 miles on it you still have plenty of Warranty coverage. Lower miles t ome would be the bigger selling point on something like this.

With a few discounts you can buy a brand new 2SS for that amount with 0 miles, full warr, and a better interest rate.

I agree. You can get a new 1SS for those prices. Get with some of the dealers on here like camaroscotty. They will get you a great deal.

Used car area was selling me a used one for 35k.....sometimes I think the used car dept try to rip you off.

The only good thing about GM Certified is they give you an extra year on your warranty or I believe an extra 10K miles. I don't think that this is really worth the extra money.

I'd be wary of a car with 7000 miles that's had two previous owners.

It costs the dealership $400.00 to buy the warranty to GM Certify a vehicle. (At least here that's the cost.)

You can take it from there.

For most dealers, the good money is in "used" cars

First, since you have a GTO I really don't think you're going to be happy going from the V8 to a V6 in a Camaro. I really wouldn't look at a car for being GM Certified. $34,900 for a 1SS w/ 7k mi is definitely high unless it's got the Ground Effects and all other possible options installed. The sticker new on my 1SS/RS A6 was $33,900. I personally would shy away from any used car because you don't know it's previous history, if the car has been beaten on to the point that the engine or trans is starting to go, or if it was wrecked. The question to ask is what is the most important to you in a new Camaro? If you really want the leather and all then the 2SS is probably best for you. If you just want the power & looks of the 5th Gen Camaro all still wrapped in a nice package then the cheaper 1SS package is a great choice too.

i'd go with the cheeper one, warrenty should have a couple years left on it. would be curious what the "put in service" dates are on both. they could be half a year apart so that might make a difference to a buyer. got mine used also and love it. having a V8 like you do would make it difficult to go down to a 6. I went from a 6 to a more powerful 6 so it worked well for me but I definitely know what you mean.
