Question regarding cats
I have an L99 and am installing an X pipe in the morning. My question is there are smaller cans behind each of the catalytic converters. What are those two smaller cans, or are they part of the catalytic converters. The cats and these two smaller cans are attached with an approximate 4 or 5 inch piece of pipe and the pipes extend out of theese smaller cans into a larger rectangular box (which I presume is a larger resonater.)
If these smaller cans are not part of the catalytics, can they be removed? Or, do I just need to cut out the larger rectangular resonator and replace it with the X-pipe? I previously installed a cat back system, but that was pretty self explanatory. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Allen |

Thank you very much, #1) for not calling me an idiot when I could have done the search, which I didn't even think of; #2) for taking the time out to attach the thread link!!! This definitely answers my question, but did cause a little bit of confusion. Since I live in good old, emission regulated California, I will leave those four cans intact and just remove the large resonator and replace it with the Magnaflow X-pipe. Sometimes I wonder about just having sold my 2nd gen, '71. Didn't have to worry about emissions stuff. I see your a first gen owner. Thank you, Allen |
