Transmission Concern
I know there have been a lot of these posted..and all along I've pretty much ignored the fact that I have had some concerns of my own until recently. I've had my 2SS since Feb (2 miles when I took delivery) and it just rolled over 5k miles. My shift from first to second has become so unnatural that I damn near have to shove it into second. It catches pretty hard..and then my 2nd to 3rd shift isn't very smooth either but not nearly as bad. This isnt my first manual and yes the clutch is fully depressed..but this has gotten to the point that I've considered trading the car in. Im 23 and even though I owe less than 5k on it I dont want it to become a huge expense suddenly. The dealership that I purchased from is a good 8 hours away..will I get any type of help taking it to a place I didnt buy it from? Thanks for the help guys

You should be able to take it to any Chevy Dealership for service work.

Has anyone told you about the annoying feature that they put on this car and also on other new cars that have come out lately called Skip Shift? That sounds like what youre talking about. But there is a solution, its called Skip Shift Bypass and its a plug and play device that stops this feature. look up Apex Chase on this site and he sells one....they cost less than $20!

Nah its not the skipshift lol......completely unrelated
I think I'd trade the car back in out of embarrassment if I had it for nearly a year and didnt know it had it. |

If it's a consistent problem, take it to a local Chevy dealer you feel comfortable with.
If it's a problem (which is sounds like it is), they'll fix it for you. Trading it in would not be the best option over just this issue. |

I only notice the shifting is kinda hard when the transmission is cold, and becomes smoother when it warms up. But that's natural.
The skip-shift was pretty annoying at the beginning, but now I learned to live with it. |

I too have the 1st to 2nd grind when she is cold. I found that if the RPMs are above 2K when this shift is attempted, the syncros won't engage the grear and it grinds. This only happens for the first few shifts when cold. After the Tranny oil warms up, problem goes away. This has happened since day one. To deal with it, I typically shift from 1st to 3rd when cold. I think that folks are grinding their syncros down from constantly grinding this shift and then saying there is a problem with their transmission (because there is a problem, worn down brass syncros).
This IS a problem that General Motors needs to address and correct. I also believe the skip-shift is a band-aid from GM in attempts to minimize the grind. Just my 2cents worth...

Actually, the skip shift only happen when the car warms up, at least in mine. I believe there are a set on parameters like speed and engine temperature, which triggers it.
Never had the 1->4 message coming up at cold engine. |

Minimum coolant temp for it to activate is 171 degrees.

Yea mine seems to shift better as the car gets warmer as well. I guess I just feel that with as much money as I've put into the car (not saying its a lot to everyone lol) I shouldnt have to accept it and move on. It doesn't ever truly feel as smooth as I think it should be. But Im not bashing it either still love it now as much as I did when I seen the concept years ago. I wouldn't have a need to change out any fluids with so few miles on it would I? I guess if it continues to bother me I'll have it checked out.

My advice is to GRIP IT AND RIP IT! Chevy warranties the transmission for five years or 100,000 miles. The clutch is another matter. GRAB IT AND STAB IT!
