oil drain bolt broke off!!!!
So in my inifinate wisdom I decided to change my oil myself today. I get the car up on stands and proceed to remove the drain bolt and snap!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess I was trying to loosen it by turning it the wrong direction. My brother in law says he thinks he can get the rest out. Of course napa doesn't stock the thing so I have to call the dealership tomorrow to get a replacement.

This will be technique used:
Oil pan drain bolts are pretty generic; someone will chime in with the correct size soon... Metric, but I'm not sure which size (M12-1.75 thread or M14-1.75 thread??) Last edited by RiCorvette; 02-20-2011 at 12:23 PM. |

On the remaining broken piece in there, tap it a few times with a center punch straight in the center of the bolt. That will help release the threads. Since the head is gone, the only thing holding it in is the bind in the threads, a couple sharp hits should loosen it. Then take a tiny chisel and tap it counter clock wise.
Autozone has nice magnetic plugs. Ask them to look up their magnetic plug for a couple year old Corvette. |

Well, I've got the replacement and some bolt extractors. Should be able to get the old one out now.

Must be a pretty common plug. I put a magnetic one in my 3.7 I5 2007 Canyon a couple years ago and it was the same one.
