Guys my paint sucks

I have had my car for a year now and all I can think is that yeah I have a gorgeous car, but my paint looks so bad. I mean there are scratches and swirls and a spot where the paint almost looks cloudy (I have a black camaro).

I wash my car like twice a month and wax it once a month and clay it once every 3 months. I use all proper methods but I know my paint can look better. The wax I use is the black box by turtle wax.

But I need help. I have to make my car look show room ready next week and I know that you guys know more about paint care than I do. Is there a cheap-ish (like maximum $120) kit that can make all my paint problems disappear. I have seen a few Adams videos on YouTube where he took a ferrari that had a bunch of scratches and made it look 100% new again. I want something like that.

Thanks in advance guys.

Bottom line is it REQUIRES a machine to correct a finish... you simply can't remove swirls and scratches without one, but with a budget of a maximum of $120 thats not really gonna happen (a porter cable alone without pads and polishes is about that amount)

You can try by hand, but you'll have to greatly reduce your expectations as you simply won't be able to remove the defects.

FWIW - the black box is nothing but an oily filler... a few washes and the gunk thats filling in the defects is gone.

Maverick, I highly suspect your friends technique was off.

Well, if you want to make it pop on that budget, and not going with a machine, check out

www.zainostore.com

You need to look at the kit with Z5, ZFX, Z6, and the clay bar. You can get a kit with all of this for around 85 bucks. It's called the show car kit.

Zaino does have a PC formula, but looks like your not budgeted for the machine. Z5 has fillers in it and with fillers, over time, it will wash away. The key to Zaino is many many layers to fill in the swirls. It's not a wax, but a protective polish. Good luck!

So if I wanted a porter cable where would I get one from an how much would it run me for after all the pads and stuff. My price range isn't set, I just said it to see what I could get for that price. What would you recommend I get?

Black is a bee-otch. I gave up black. I fought and fought with my 2007 black Corvette. You have to so careful with washing, drying, waxing... etc. It sucks. Plus clay barring can mess it up if a microscopic particle gets embedded in the clay. Once it's messed up, it's hard to get back and once you do, it's simple to mess up again. I believe black cars are terrible DD cars. Too much work but damn they look amazing clean.

There is a hand polishing kit from Adams that's about 150 bucks and if you got the time and the hutspah to work it, I am sure you can bring your finish back with this kit. I have hand polished my previous vehicles with outstanding results! But I'm getting older and wanted to find a faster way that's safe so I got the Adams premium detail kit and that was a good move on my part!

Btw, and correct me if I am wrong, claying will not shine up the car. It is used in conjunction with polishes for a better finish

Once you go Adams... you don't go back. I was a zaino backer before I gave Adams a shot. For all the work you would put in to using zaino, you would get better results with Adams and the pc. And instead of covering up the damage you would repair it.

Once you get all the scratches out with the PC and the right pads/compounds... then - stop claying it. Get some better towels. Don't wax it so often. Use a leaf blower to dry it. Use two buckets to keep the wash mit clean.... a couple tips I can think of.

The less you touch it the better. Clay will drag scratches all through it. And use 100% soft cotton towels only when needed for waxing, wash them with some softner... Same with the wash mit. Get a good one, and machine wash and dry it everytime, using softner.

Long term fix. Never buy a black car.

Now let's not get crazy. Zaino is OUTSTANDING. It is NOT as much work as people make it out to be. Now you can make it a lot of work, but for paint that is in generally good condition it is not a taxing job at all to maintain it with Zaino. Let's not turn this into take a shot at Zaino thread.
