What Should be the Published Horsepower Rating of the 2012 ZL1?

I think that it would be a cool if Chevrolet published the "official" rated horsepower of the LSA in the 2012 ZL1 as 430 hp. It might help keep down insurance costs.

Would be cool, but they have already been saying it's going to be in the 550ish range...To pull that back would really upset a lot of people.

You did say published, so why not?! A little underrating never hurt anyone

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the new HP certification process doesn't allow manufacturers to significantly underrate cars power like they did in the past.

They don't have to get certified though We already know LSA in CTS-V is certified, so they could fudge a bit it they wanted to

Interesting... so because the LSA has already been certified, they can theoretically publish the certified 556hp number and deliver an unpublished, higher power version of the engine? And if they do decide to publish a higher HP number than 556, they'd have to re-certify correct?

I don't recall that engines necessarily have to be certified. I don't notice SAE certification for all cars in the articles I read, so I'm really only guessing unless someone proves otherwise. I don't think all the manufacturers certify though.

What do you really think is more important to GM?

Possibly (if ins. co.'s were that stupid) cheaper insurance for buyers, or bragging rights in the HP wars between Chevy, Ford & Dodge?

I was being facetious with regard to the insurance costs.

I just think it would be cool for the ZL1 to have the "430" hp rating.

It would have some "historical precedence"...the original '69 ZL1 was under-rated @ 430 (Gross)...

Thats what they did on the V6. 304 in the CTS, and it went uncertified for the 2010 Camaro. When they did certify it in the Camaro it went up to 312.
