WHEEL LOCK ISSUE

Hello all purchased a set of Mcgard 24210 wheel locks for my 2010 2ss with 20 inch polished wheels. The locks fit but the "shank" is a bit longer than the lug nut that was removed. I got the part number off this site, I don't know if they make a smaller shank to fit this wheel better. I can use the 24210 model number but I am hearing from my cousin(mustang shellby owner) that this larger lug could throw the balance of the wheel off. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks

When I was working in a tire shop, I was balancing wheels for this old fella and he had locks that were a bit longer as well. He told me to put a 1/4 ounce weight opposite the lock to compensate for it being bigger.

Now really...would a person feel that if the tires were properly balanced otherwise?

My answer is...I honestly don't know. LOL

I originally bought those and took them back for that same reason of being to long. I got a different # on Mcgard website that were shorter
the # is 24214. They are just about the same size as the factory lugs.
Got a deal on Amazon.com for $23 with free shipping. Hope that helps.

I am not a mechanic by any means, but I would highly doubt that a lug nut that sticks out a bit (and thus is maybe a gram or two heavier) spinning that close to the centerline of the wheel would have any measurable impact on balancing during normal operational speeds.

I could be wrong...

That was my thought exactly when the old fella asked me to put that 1/4 ounce weight on his rims. You're pretty sensitive if you can feel that!
