Question Lug wrench in SS? + wheel lock question...

(I originally posted this in the wheel/tire section, but apparently not many people look there so I'm gonna try here...)

Does the SS come with a lug wrench? Or does that only come with the spare tire on the V6?

Just wondering because I'm gonna have to put my wheel locks on...

Also, if it is included (I assume it will not be a 4-handle one), will a Gorilla key fit in the standard socket? Or will I have to find a bigger one?

Thanks

It requires 22mm socket. The lock keys come in two sizes one 22mm and one that is (i think) 13/16. I believe there is key that has both sizes as part of the key (small part first and then the 22mm after but I think you need a "deep socket" for that one). I don't know if is Gorrilla or Mcgard. I 'll check for the site because I went through this last week.

here is Gorilla's page of keys:
http://www.gorilla-auto.com/replacement.keys.all

I don't see any key for the 22mm which is the size of your lug nuts. Therefore you would have to have a 22mm socket for the lugnuts and a 3/4 or 13/16 inch for the Lock Key.

No the SS does not come with a lug wrench.

I just installed these:
http://www.gorilla-auto.com/the.system.new.box

To remove the old lugs, use a 7/8" wrench or tire iron. Then put on your Gorilla wheel locks. Tighten it down using the key and a 13/16" socket/wrench/tire iron (I think Zen means 21mm, not 22mm, as 21mm is approximately the same as 13/16"). I personally then torqued each to 140 ft lbs. My torque wrench was a 1/2" wrench so had to get a 13/16" 1/2" socket to use it. It all worked great for me!

I just bought and used a single tire iron (the 4-handled thing you reference since you'll need two sizes; the 13/16" to install your locks and the 7/8" to remove the old lugs) and then the torque wrench with 1/2" socket.

The 22mm is for the original lug nuts (where you are using a 7/8 which is a little larger than the lug nut).

Ah, I misread your post. Yeah I used the 7/8" or 22mm side of the tire iron to remove the original lugs. Fit perfectly! The 21mm or 13/16" to use the Gorilla key.

Note that when I removed them it certainly didn't feel like they were torqued to 140 btw but I didn't verify.

Mcgard makes a key that is the same size as the lug nuts. I bought the "open end cone seat" locks (#24019). These are made for wheels with hub caps. So the thieves generally can't get these off because it takes a different type of key and they can't just hammer on a regular socket like they can on Gorilla or regular McGard locks. Then you can get "Lug nut covers" from the chevrolet dealer which screw onto the locks so that they look like a regular lug nut. I hope this make sense.

Do you actually think a locking wheel nut will stop people from taking your wheels? They will take them one way or another. Its not difficult. I think they ugly the wheels too. Better to invest in a pit bull. Where are you parking your car that you need that? Usually wheels don't go missing at the mall.

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I was looking for

Who says it has to be at a mall? Your wheels can be stolen off your car right in your own driveway... just ask Number 3. Also there was another one posted from an apartment complex, where the RS wheels were stolen. I don't have a garage, as I live in an apartment complex, and I sometimes travel for work and have to leave my car parked somewhere for a week at a time. Not to mention, I work in downtown Detroit (we have a secure parking garage, but I do go out for lunch sometimes). Anyway, I didn't ask for opinions on wheel locks, as there are other threads for that discussion. I asked about lug wrench inclusion and socket sizes. So if you don't have anything productive to add to a thread, please refrain from unnecessarily adding your smarmy comments. kthx.
