How Often Oil Change?

I have only put 5,700 miles on my 2011 2SS/RS since I bought it in July 2010, and I do use it as a daily driver. I just don't drive very much. The On Starr system used to tell me that I had 55% left until an oil change. Now it tells me on my monthly report that I have 99% left until an oil change. So the question is when to change for a low mileage daily car and what type of oil? Thanks everyone. Bloody On Star.

If I understand this correctly, On-Star was reporting 55% remaining before next oil change, then suddenly switched to reporting 99% without you changing the oil? If so, it sounds like there was an accidental reset of the oil life monitor.

Oil changes

So far you're about 5 months past due. You shouldn't be gauging your change intervals by mileage alone. And, I'd be sticking with full synthetic.

All the drive thrus around here serve Pennzoil oil. is that any good? If not one of them said to buy the Mobil 1 and they will put it in. In a wheelchair so can't change it myself.

Just take it to the dealer, they will check all your fluids and you'll have a work history on the car.

Just follow the DIC reading. When it gets blo 20% or 1 year which ever comes first then it's time to change. Mobil 1 prefered. I change mine once a year just before winter storage (my past Corvettes) and will follow the same routine with this car. Any sooner is a waste of money but do what makes you feel better. Today's high tech engines for the most part can go much longer between changes. Enjoy your car in any case.

At 1000 miles since break-in dirties oil faster than normal wear. Then at 5000, 10,000 and so on.....

I've been getting on it pretty good lately and changed the oil today at 1652 after reading a bunch of posts about getting the metal out. Oil looked nice and clean. I almost regretted it when I saw that but better safe then sorry and now the car won't be getting any for 5000

The manual says change whenever the oil sensor tells you to or after 1 year.
