mid pipe suggestions
am going to keep the cats and manifolds. gonna do the muffler delete, but dont know if i,m gonna have a x pipe made and do the resonator delete or buy a mid pipe to relace it. whos got the best resonator replacement or am i waisting my money. i can have an x pipe made for 80 bucks. another 125 will do the muffler delete . so for 205.00 i can do the whole deal. is the bought mid pipe worth it? i see the cans they put the crossover (x pipe) in on the ones i have seen. i,m not worried about drone as i,m gonna tune the car and dont care..... thx dan

well,, i built a 79 corvette in about,,, 1985. after ther build i talked with a buddie who had a muffler shop and said , what about putting a crossover pipe to equalize the pulses and pressure in the exhaust. my buddy said lets try it. so a few days later he built an x pipe and we tryed to decide just where to put it. i suggested we put it in where the color change was in the pipes. not exactly knowing why other than the heat signature and maybe speed of the exhaust at that point started to slow and that might be a good spot to start. well, the car was strong already but, the mid range came alive to a pretty good degree. very noticable. so i left it there. we talk about that once in a while and today he makes x pipes for performance street rigs and local stock cars. i used to experiment with stuff alot in those days. some of the ideas were crap,, some were,nt. my question to the knowlegeable people here was more of why it would be better to wrap the x pipe in a can? i thought maybe for noise thru the floor boards, or heat on it. maybe to keep the exhaust temps up as it hit the crossover?? i,m dumb on the new tech and computer stuff. anyway,,,, i understand it takes away sales on aftermarket parts to be sold. but i would gladly buy one if it made more power and of course would want to know why it did. getting back into playing with cars has so far been alot of fun,, as my kids are raised now and i have some free time for myself after 20 yrs of coaching and the usual dad stuff. keep playing guys,, you could have worse habits!! thx,,,dan

The resonators are there to reduce drone and make the exhaust apeal to more people. That and so when it kicks down to 4 cylinders it doest sound like garbage. I wouldnt suggest doing it unless you get the AFM tuned out of your car though. Cut it out if you want your exhaust louder.
