Tonneau cover posts

I took delivery of my convertible today, pics at a later date. The thing was I found I couldn't get the tonneau cover on. I went back to the dealer and asked if they could show me how to do it and they had the same problem. It looked like at some point (don't know whether it's the dealer or the factory), but the posts that the tonneau cover is supposed to clip to (behind the rear seats) are missing.

Unfortunately I picked it up in CT and live in VA, driving back down tomorrow, so leaving it here long enough to be fixed isn't really an option. Fortunately the dealer said I could have someone down in VA repair it and send him a bill.

My question is, is there anything wrong with driving it with the top down and no tonneau cover on it? Obviously short trips, really shouldn't hurt it, but what about long trips (like from NY to VA)?

I read through the thread about rub marks with the top down, and I'll be watching out for that. I also saw that there was rub marks coming from the tonneau cover being on. Any idea if a tonneau cover that doesn't rub like that is on the way from GM?

Thanks guys, great forum.

I think I can help you on this!

For starters, while I really don't feel comfortable.driving without the tanneau cover (as the top ripples quite a bit)- the 1SS/1LTs don't come with the covers, so it must be acceptable by GM. Member "Number3" test drove one quite extensively and reported no issues wigout a tanneau.

Secondly, check this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132147
There's some pretty good picks on there about the bolts, where they go.and.what.to.do.to install. There should be a package inside your tanneau bag with the bolts in it. I've had mine on/off a few times, very simple, only word of.caution is don't drop the nuts inside the car!

Hope this helps.

Tonneau cover is fine on mine, bolts were installed by the dealer. Figured out how to put it on today, looked like there will be no problem running the car without it. I wanted to spread it out and get some vinyl protectant on it, so I put it on.

Btw, no rub marks left by the tonneau cover so far.

The posts come in the bag with the cover and are supposed to be installed by the dealer. I wouldn't bother driving that far because they won't have them in stock. I had a car that came in missing the spacer for the posts and it took over a week to get. Just order them from your local dealer (unless they're willing to run it through warranty since they were missing).

I have decided not to put the posts on my car at this point and so far I have never had a problem as a result of not using the cover. I never had one on the last vert I had and never had a problem with that top either.

QuicksilverHg, you should be able to get this type of service at any dealership. Have you been able to get this resolved? Also I'm glad to see all of the good replies to your question and I'm also happy to welcome you to the Camaro Family. I know you'll have fun!

Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. It's a rough week at work, we're doing late night flights so I am sleeping during the day, and haven't had time to go in yet. I hope to get it looked at this weekend.

Any idea how long this fix should take? Could I just sit in the lobby for an hour or so while it's being done?

I put mine in myself. Took a grand total of 20 minutes. If you need me to walk you thru it, I'd be happy to help.
