DEAD BATTERY..........AGAIN???

I did a few searches on this, but could not find anything real recent or exactly the same.

So, back in the fall, I garaged my car for the winter. One month after I finally got time to put the battery tender on. I go to the garage and the battery is already dead. I put the charger on and apparently it was completely dead and calcified, so the charger could do nothing. I left it on and tried, to no avail. so I left it dead, garage is alarmed and safe so no issues.

Spring came and I went to Advance Autoparts and got a heavy duty battery $165 and put it in (Slightly higher cold crank rating). I drove the car 3 times and went away on vacation. Next time I went back to the car only 2 WEEKS later, battery is so dead, I cannot recharge it AGAIN.

I have an appointment to bring it to the dealer, which I will have to jump it to get it there, or flatbed it.

I was wondering if anyone else with a 2010 2SS/RS has had this problem? What the heck can kill a BRAND NEW battery in two weeks, ridiculous.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

There is possibly a glitch in the electronics that keeps drawing power from the battery until it is completely dead. Did not have this issue on my SS, but did have it on a BMW 528i.

sounds like an electrical parasite killing your batteries. Next time, disconnect the battery when storing..

definitely shouldn't be draining the battery that quick. My SS goes weeks between starts. For instance, last time I started my car, it had been about 6 weeks since last, and it cranked strong and fired up on second crank.

Nope, no aftermarket, completely stock! I mean that battery was dead in 2 weeks.

You didn't leave the lights on, right? Just kidding!
You could hook up a milliampere meter inline to test it. There's some tiny current draw reqd for clock and other settings. My guess would be in the 100 mA range, but u could get that from a svc dept. Anything significant enough to kill/calcify your battery is much more than that, and you've got a problem. Shouldn't be happening, for sure. I left my camaro parked last summer for five weeks. Came back and it fired right up, like it had run the previous day.

So u could put an amp meter between your red positive and the post, record the drain, and let your svc dept know what u find.

I had the exact same problem when I first got mine. It would be dead after sitting for three days. It ended up being a crushed wire shorting out under the drivers seat. It took them three days of testing the wiring system to find where the short was coming from. The dealer can perform a test to see if there is short draining the battery. Good luck I hope they find out what's causing the problem.

I finally got time to go out and putz around on my Camaro a Bit, and I am a bit of an idiot. I had a defective Knight Rider Light a while back and I could have sworn I disconnected it. Turns out I never did.

So I am betting that is what my issue is. I completely 100% removed the piece and put the stock piece back and removed every trace of it.

I went back to advance auto parts and they replaced the battery 100% free of charge. Part of their guarantee........ sweet! THANKS ADVANCE AUTO!

I forgot how much I love my SS. Man it halls arse.

I have an appointment on Wednesday morning at the Chevy dealer. I will let them take a look at it. I want them to meter it when it is just sitting and see if they see any excessive draw. If they say it is fine, time will tell. I am sure it will be sitting a week at a time.

Thanks all for the feedback, much appreciated. I will let you know if Chevy finds anything!

Well, I've had an ongoing problem that ended up getting a bad lifter knock added to it that all turned out to be an exhaust manifold leak.
