I Might Be Waiting A While

I called my dealer and asked him about the status of my workbench order. He informed me that it had not changed, it had not been picked up for production yet. I ordered back in early December, and have seen others that ordered later have their orders scheduled for production. I thought I read that smaller dealer orders will be pushed back behind the big boys. At my dealership, am #1 of 1. That's right, they were only allocated 1 Camaro. Does this mean I'll be at the back of the line? I was also told that if I chage the stripe package, I will lose my place in line. Any truth to that?

if your #1 of 1, there's no "spot" for you to lose.

My salesman told me that if I changed my stripe package, that would change the "Date Order Submitted" to GM. And that would put me at the back of the line. I was weary of this because the stripes are dealer installed, and would not affect actual production.

Hello
your dealer can make a change in about 10 seconds without effecting you placement
I ordered inventory for a Chevrolet dealer for 15 years
once you dealer get his allocation The only thing that would slow your order down is if you have constraints
The last couple of weeks the V6, LT and LS have not been available to order
The V8 models have been pulled for production
Based on your dealer only receiving one Camaro you need to be very flexible on your options and model and color
If you are, you need to let your dealer know that way once they get the allocation they can call you so you change your order to match what GM is buliding that week
rather then giving the allocation to someone else
If you are not flexible and could be the end of 2009 or 2010 before you get a Car
Good Luck
Richard

I wouldn't worry about it too much, in another post from FBodfather, he states that they hope to have all preorders done by the end of June, the latest i've seen is last week of Oct. I've made 3 changes to mine since Oct 24, and i'm still in the same spot.

Waiting for Awhile

I am going to compare the 2010 Camaro ordering to my experience with the 2005 C6 Corvette. Before I do, in the old days before the C6, every Chevrolet dealer was allocated at least one Corvette every year. Their allocation would come up the month of the prior model year order: if one order took place in the previous MY December, March and May, the dealer would get three allocations the following year, and each would come up December, March and May. Thus a smaller dealer with few allocations often waited. This is a part of the franchise sytem and GM can only change it with an Act of Congress (as if).

In 2003 I decided to order a C6. I could not put a deposit until December 3 of that year; not because of GM but because the Dealer would not take one until then. In May, I was able to actually order and got a copy of the Autobook printout similar to what others have referred to for thier Camaros.

On 06/16/04 I went to 3000 with no TPW or EDD.On 06/23/04 still at 3000 but a TPW of 08/02/04 and EDD of 08/23/04. On 07/08/04 I went to 3100, the production started 07/19/04.) On 07/28/04 I went to 3400. On 08/11/04 my dealer was informed "built but not released. On 08/17/04 the internet reports said the trucks were being loaded in Bowling Green but the dealer has no paperwork. On 08/23/04 the Vette arrived. The VIN ended with 708 which corresponds to a slow ramp up. During the first months there were a few constraints, particularly about the optional chromed wheels and the Z-51 performance package, but in the end all turned out well for everybody concerned.

This seems to be the pattern the Camaro is going down, so if your dealer has a low number of sport car sales, there is a chance their allocation will be delayed as if it were a Corvette order, I do not know, but given the state of the franchise laws, I do so suspect.

Enjoy, laborsmith

I did order a V8 (2SS). Are you saying that if I went with another color or 1SS instead, my order might get done sooner?

You just need to wait for your dealer to get his allocation.
Once he does, you can order whatever you want within the constraints provided at that time.

No. Making changes to your order will ONLY effect your order IF your dealer has allocations for that month and IF something on your order is on constraint. If your car hasn't been pulled yet it's because your dealer has not been given any allocations yet, it is NOT because of what you ordered.

I just got my event code from the dealer. I am still at 1100, not even accepted by GM yet. At this rate, I might be able to buy a used one before they get to building mine.
