Painting ground effects question

Looking for opinions or experience on painted GM ground effects. I am going with front and sides all Summit white to match car. On the rear I am undecided on what to do between the tailpipes. I had no choice as they were dealer installed when I purchased the car and now have to remove them for a proper job. My body shop pal suggests I leave the triple horizontal "grilles" unpainted and everything else to be white including the fins underneath. What do you think?

I did mine all IOM. Happy with it. I've seen the version you describe. It looks nice also.

I had my horizontal gills painted black. I was trying to break up all the orange. I think it worked ok.

Here's a couple of pictures, unfortunately they don't always give u a good shot of the back. I didn't really want the ground effects at first but now I love them, especially after they were painted. I kind of like the way the 4th picture is, but either way it will look great. By the way, I don't know if it is always done the same way, but mine were attached with some kind of heavy duty double sided tape. After painted the front piece keeps coming loose. I have to have it redone for the 3rd time. Don't know if there is another way to attach them.

I did mine like this did the white strip around the bezels and between the horizontal grill and the lower fins to give them some separation I plan on powder coating the exhaust bezels black when i change the mufflers to tie them in with the grill part.

I did mine like above, but I painted the bezels to match the grey/black

Can I ask what is not proper about the instal? And what the body shop is going to do

Correction...the only black on mine is the horizontal strip and the bezels. I have been considering painting the fin area black though

I had my GFX removed and painted black (body color) and had to take it back to the dealer to be re-installed again as the front and rear pieces were pulling away. I still don't know if my front splitter was attached using the updated kit which rivets brackets to the front facia and splitter so there is a mechanical method of attachment in addition to the 2-sided tape. So far the panels are staying put, but the dealer initially tried to shift blame for the failure by saying EVERY re-install will fail because it is not possible to get a clean reapplication of the tape. I called BS on that explanation, but I can see where it could be true if there was not a thorough cleaning and old adhesive removal.

Thanks for the tips and pics. I will probably go with the all white with the exception of the horizontal grilles. Supercharged SS sent me his pic by email which appeals to me the most. Maybe he would post it or give me permission to do so?

On the removal / reinstall I am a bit nervous because my body shop guy asked me to find out how they were installed. I have emailed my dealer but have not heard back. Will keep you posted.

Thanks again Forum5
