Tire Tread-wear Question...

Ordered up a set of new wheels and searching tires now... I went with a 20x10 with +38mm offset for the rear and 20x8.5 with +35mm offset... Car will be lowered around an inch...

The PZero treadwear is 220...

A closest Nitto Invo size for the rear is 295/35/R20 (101W) but the W is 260 tread wear. I wouldn't mind running 315/35/R20 (106W) but I can't imagine it would fit with my wheel selection. I'm dragging my feet because of the treadwear being 260 which should be technically be less sticky than the Pzero if I'm understanding it right. I really wanted something with better traction since I'm a spirited driver, it's just a summer car, and I would like it to see some track time... Am I over thinking it?

The Nitto Invo's work well, but if you really want a tire for more spirited driving, try the Nitto NT-05's. They have a much more aggressive tread pattern and are 200 treadwear rating if I recall correctly. They aren't great in the rain, but real good in dry.

Here is a direct quote from DiscountTireDirect.com explaining the UTQG grading system:

Uniform Tire Quality Grading (UTQG)Uniform Tire Quality Grading is a relative comparison system. Tires are graded by manufacturers in three areas: treadwear, traction and temperature.

The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear of a tire when tested carefully under controlled conditions. For example, a tire graded 400 should have its useful tread last twice as long as a tire graded 200. Treadwear grades are only valid for comparisons within a manufacturer's product line.

Traction grades represent the tire's ability to stop on wet pavement as measured under controlled conditions on asphalt and concrete test surfaces. As of 1997, the traction grades from highest to lowest are "AA","A","B" and "C". The grades do not take into consideration the cornering or turning performance of a tire.

Temperature grades represent a tire's resistance to heat and its ability to dissipate heat when tested under controlled laboratory test conditions. The grades from highest to lowest are "A","B" and "C" . The grade "C" corresponds to the minimum performance required by federal safety standard.

I bought Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105 in 265/35/22 because it had a rating of 420AA. All the reviews for this tire that I read stated that the tire lasted for 50,000-60,000 miles (this is where the 420 part of the rating comes in).

Just another thing to keep in mind when selecting the right tire for your ride. Good Luck!

Thanks for your guy's opinions... keep 'em coming!

Another question arised as I started selecting sizes too. Did any of you guys find a rolling radius difference in height between the front and rear tires that wasn't ESP compliant? I understand the effects of going to a bigger or smaller tire than factory all together, but I didn't know if ESP will let you run a 1/2" shorter tire in the front. I know the stock ones are 28.7" front and rear so they have no height difference. Reason I ask is because I can't find another invo for the front that matches perfect to the 295/35 rear in overall tire height. The closeest tire is actually slightly taller in the front, YUCK!
