Tire Pressure? Owners Manual fails again!

Well, the cooler weather this last weekend here in Arkansas set of the TPMS on my car off. Tire pressure light on the dash as well as the annoying message in the DIC every time you turn the car on. All tires were at 28 psi after the temp drop. I finally was able to get by a decent Shell station today and paid my 75 cents to air up the tires. I spent 20 mins literally looking for the recommended psi to inflate the tires to and never found it in the Owners manual. The section on TPMS said about everything about tire pressure except for the the recommended psi. It just said that the recommended psi is on a sticker attached to the car. Real specific there....it didn't say where on the car said sticker is. I ended up just inflating to 32 psi on all 4 tires and that got rid of the lights and DIC message. I know the inflation psi will vary slightly depending on tires, but there should be a psi for the stock equipment. My car actually came with Goodrich tires on it rather than the Pirelli's which I was actually happy about. Anybody know what the recommended PSI is? I read that this is not determined only by the tire inflation recommendation on the tires, but also by the vehicle weight.

35 PSI. The sticker is on the drivers door jam - open drivers door and look at the door frame halfway up near the latch. Yellow sticker.

What ever the the tire pressure label inside the drivers door jamb says regardless of tire brand is the correct pressure for the car to obtain the ride and handling characteristics that GM designed the car with. To muddy up the water even more 30 to 34 psi is a safe pressure on 95% of passenger cars, but like I said the label is the correct. If it says 30 or 35 psi follow it, especially since the TPMS are calibrated on those numbers and like you said the DIC message is really annoying for you.

By the way, Tire Pressure Loading Info labels have been inside the doors of cars for many many years. It is easier for the manufacturer to reference the label rather than bury it in the manual, not so much a fail as much a universally accepted practice across the entire auto industry.

Thanks for the info. I was aware of that sticker, but didn't think that it would have the tire pressure info on it. Thanks again.

I think, though I could be mistaken, that it's pretty standard procedure for all manufacturers to have that sticker in the driver's side door jamb.

So next vehicle you're looking for PSI on - check there first.

I'd that's a safe bet. I've never come a across a car that didn't have that info on the sticker. Mine went of this weekend too. Was cracking me up how it had the picture of the car with the low tire blinking like it was a video game. haha

You can also check the sidewall of the tire itself for the Max pressure. Many inflate to this to get the best mileage.

That is a terrible idea. You get a harsh ride and reduced contact.

No fail on the owner's manual, it gives the correct answer - see the sticker. Keep reading a little further, it refers you to another page in the manual that tells exactly where the sticker is, gives an example of what it looks like.... has tomorrow's lottery numbers and KFC's secret chicken spices. It's all in there, just gotta dig.

Which means whenever you inflate, inflate to 1-2psi more than the recommended (unless you are inflating at home). Also go to a tire shop like Discount Tire, they usually have a bay where you just pull in and they fill up your air for free. Fast and easy, especially when it's cold out.
