Another Metra install question/notes

I have been doing a lot of research on the forums ever since I purchased the metra kit, Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT, and a Pioneer NB-DC4 backup camera, yet I have a few more questions.

Well I am testing everything before cramming all the wires back into the dash, and came across one big issue. I cannot get any sound to the speakers while in radio mode no matter the volume setting. Onstar worked correctly though. I have played with the gain screws which produced static. I am using the 40-EU10 antenna adapter. Does the metal end seat flush with the unit? It gets extremely tight and has about 1/8" to spare. Is that normal? Since I have a 2SSRS, I didnt think I needed to wire in the 4 pin harness that attaches to the interface box. Is that correct? Finally, I connected the blue/white metra wire to the blue/white Pioneer wire that is labeled "system remote control". Is that the same as "amp turn on wire"? Everything else seems to be ok.

Someone had the idea to tap into the white amp wire for powering the backup camera instead of the backup lights, and that works super in backup/map mode.

With the glove box open, I saw a metal bar up on top. Im hoping that is good enough to mount the gps antenna. It didnt get a signal in the garage, but I will report on this later once the car is in one piece.

I fished my microphone wire through the tiny hole on the right side of the steering column, so that i could mount the microphone fairly hidden right below the odometer.

Thanks guys,
Eric

Update.. I had the a few of the RCA cables wrong. I had hooked up the green and purple RCAs to the rear monitor out instead of the rear out.

I still have the 3.5mm Aux jack RCAs to deal with. Anyone know where they go on the Z110BT/120BT/130BTs? Do they go to the rear monitor output RCAs?

Better do a video bypass efore sticking the radio in the dash.

Im not sure why that is needed. The backup camera comes on when in reverse and is able to be summoned when needed.

The thing is driving me crazy now is the stupid parking brake. The brake light was constantly on after T-tapping the metra green wire to the Pioneer wire and then tapping the pioneer wire to the light blue wire. After that failed, I swapped the taps with disconnects using a blue with 2 wires and a red with the single wire. After a little plunger jiggling, now the parking brake light works, but I get a parking brake error message when the Pioneer turns on. Has anybody encountered this? One more ok button to press isnt a huge inconvenience, but it sure is annoying.

Thanks

Yup, that would be the video bypass error. Pull the mute wire off the rca harness, move it up one spot, ground that wire and the parking brake wire to the ground of the radio and you'll be good to go.

Ok. I might try that. Im wondering where the best place to ground behind the dash is. Currently I have the metra ground wire tapped into the pioneer ground and I ran that to one of the two screws attached to the metal support. These screws are above the two other screws that connect to the black plastic piece that gets hogged out. Is that a good ground? I didnt see anything else nearby.

I havent done the bypass yet, but have been doing some troubleshooting. If I have the metra green wire attached to the Pioneer parking brake wire, the dash brake light will not go off. If I totally remove the metra green wire and connect the pioneer parking brake wire directly to the parking brake switch.. it looks like everything works and no error message. What is the purpose of the metra parking brake green wire? Is that even needed?
Thanks

The metro harness green is just suppose to be an easier spot to attach to the parking brake wire. Itsnpt needed though. As far as ground goes....anything solid metal will work in the dash.

That's what I figured.. I was scared to chop off the super long parking brake wire at the beginning. I thought everything was fine.. then of course the parking brake error message came on again after I buttoned everything back up for the 3rd or 4th time. I'm gonna tie the green wires together this time, and leave the light blue parking brake wire alone. Im gonna be a pro at this eventually. Hopefully this info is helpful to someone.

Well.. another weekend another dash teardown. I am at a loss on how to get rid of the parking brake error message. I went directly from the metra green wire to the z130 parking brake wire, and the message still pops up, even though in the headunit settings the parking brake turns on and off correctly. I even tried to reset the box, which didnt help.

I am now determined to do the bypass now, and maybe it will clear that message at the same time. Ive seen the video on youtube about moving the mute wire from the z130 harness up one, and then grounding that wire, the parking brake wire, and the ground. What about the brown metra wire that connects to the mute wire, and the metra parking brake wire? Do they get grounded too? If so, there will be 6 wires connected together right? The green, brown and black metra wires to the yellow/black, light green, and black pioneer wires. The harness ground wire is in lieu of a chassis ground right?
Thanks

The easiest way to do it is, keep your radio ground connected to metra harness ground....move the mute pin to where it needs to go and then ground the mute wire and the green parking brake wire from the RADIO ONLY using a t-tap on the radio ground. Dont worry about the rest of the wires on the metra harness, just ground the wires coming from the radio.

I completed the bypass install. The hardest part was getting the pin out. I pushed a resistor in the tiny hole above the pin hole and it might have made it come out a bit easier. Without the mute wire attached the radio shuts off when the onstar button or phone button on steering wheel is hit. Is there an alternate way to keep this from happening other than never hitting those bottons? On a positive note.. no more parking brake warning!

You can try and get another pin from another harness. Just about all pioneer harness pins are the same. I forgot to tell you about the radio shut down in this mode. Does it come right back up after or do you have to turn it on manually after the onstar call?

Yeah, the system pops back up after the onstar end button is pressed. At least I don't have to restart the car tp get it back running.

Would the new wire from Pioneer would go where the old mute wire was, which would then tie into the original brown mute wire from metra? Maybe Cartoys has some extras.. although my girlfriend will kill me if I tell her I have to take the dash apart again..
