Spin off thread, Fisher Body

Spin off from "Two Stories: History lesson & Not all Mustang guys are bad..." thread:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178201

Fisher Body was a seperate entity started by two brother in 1908.

(From Wikipedia)
"In 1916, the company became the Fisher Body Corporation. Its capacity was 370,000 bodies per year and its customers included Abbot, Buick, Cadillac, Chalmers, Chandler, Chevrolet, Churchfield, Elmore, EMF, Ford, Herreshoff, Hudson, Krit, Oldsmobile, Packard, Regal, and Studebaker."

So at one time you could buy a Ford or a Chevrolet that had a "Body by Fisher."

(Wiki again)
"In a 1919 deal put together by president William C. Durant, General Motors bought 60% of the company. The Fisher company purchased Fleetwood Metal Body in 1925, and in 1926 was integrated entirely as an in-house coachbuilding division of General Motors. Fisher Body as a unique entity was dissolved by being merged with other GM operations in 1984."

So after 1984 they no longer had "Body by Fisher" emblems.

Just posted since I had read this recently and found it interesting.

Also if you didn't know, at least at the Norwood F-body plant, they operated as two seperate entities with their own break and lunch room facilities. The Fisher Body side and GM side were seperated by a wall with a passage in it to shove the cars through. They were very much in competition with each other. As the Fisher body portion was completed the car was shoved through the "hole" to be staged on the GM side to go down the line and complete the build. I assume this changed when they merged in '84. The Norwood plant closed on Aug. 26th 1988 a.k.a. "Black Wednesday" as the last car, a Camaro of course, rolled off the line.

EDIT: I just saw the Fbodfather had posted some of this in that thread. I guess I didn't need to do the spin-off.
