my onstar story

So my onstar subscription finally ran out. I check the packages, it was about $25 a month for everything (navigation and safety) and $13 a month for low end package. I called them and informed them that I'd like to keep it but not for $25 a month so I asked if there was any deal she could make me on the Navigation package. I was told that I already got a GM employee discount and they could not go lower than that price. I then told them that I might like to keep the $13 a month package just incase the car was stolen or I was in an accident (I didnt want to tell her I get a 10% discount on my car insurance for having it). She finally told me that she would give me 6 months of turn by turn for free if I bought the $13 a month package. I agreed if they wouldn't activate the turn my turn until March as my car is in storage until then anyway and it wouldnt do me much good now. I was placed on hold and when she came back she told me she would do that. So when car comes out of storage I will have turn by turn for free until it goes back into storage, at which point I will try the same thing again.

The Directions plan is not worth having at any price. I tried it once to see what it did and it works but how often do you need it? Like most people I have a GPS and it does a better job than OnStar. I renewed the Safe and Sound part for 1 year and it does give you some sense of security but it's a little overpriced.

WOW! You are the problem with this country. Always wanting something for nothing. If you want on-star then PAY FOR IT.

That sounds a bit harsh. I mean why would someone want turn by turn directions while the car is in storage? Hey if you don't ask you'll never know what kind of deal you can get.

Doesn't hurt to bargain, I ended up getting the directions package for $225 for the year. The iPhone app virtual advisor allows you to down load directions to the car at anytime.

well then chalk me up as a problem. I'm sorry but it costs these people next to nothing to provide these services and they are losing customers everyday just like sirius radio. If they want to keep people then they will make deals as some money for them is better than no money. If that makes me a problem then so be it and I didn't ask for it for nothing I asked if they had a deal. They offered for nothing. Its people like you that make me not like this forum so much. There is always atleast one troll on every thread. You sir, are a troll.

Well, that's not exactly true. Each service at the time it is used by us as consumer costs close to next to nothing.. that is true.. however the investment to bring those services to you and your car is HUGE. They need an ROI or there is no point to be in business.

That being said, I applaud you for asking for deal and getting it. I applaud Onstar for being willing to work with you and not turn on your free turn by turn till it comes out of storage.

If there is a deal available, by all means go for it. Absolutely right, you didn't ask for something for nothing.
