Tie rod "excessive play" @ 35K

Was having my new General G-Max all seasons (from Tire Rack) installed yesterday when they said the L/F tie rod had excessive play. Seems odd after only 35K miles. Took it to the dealer today for verification and they agreed there was a tie rod issue and possibly a hub bearing. Luckily I have 1200 miles left on my warranty. Anyone know if this is a bit early for this type of issue? Daily driver, no racing.

If there is a bearing problem that would have probably aided the tie rod problem. You did not feel any difference while driving it ?

Nothing really noticeable, of course I've never driven on bad rods before so there could have been something there that I just did not recognize at the time. Thinking back, there had been an occasion where it seemed the front end had a mind of it's own.
Update, bearing appears to be fine, they replaced both tie rods no charge.
