Got egged. paint was scratched to the metal by shell?
Just like the title says, my car got egged last night. It was cool and cloudy this morning, so I thought "I'll just wash it off.glad I keep a good coat of wax."
Went through a pressure washer twice, came home and got out the bucket and washed the car. After washing, I found three impact designs scratched into the paint where the eggs had . I rewashed those areas, and found they were scratches. Not etched from the egg, but scratches from the shell. Should our paint be that thin? Suggestions?

Yes egg shells will go right down to the metal on paint. You're best bet is either to touch up the paint or repaint the panel. Might be a good idea to file a comprehensive claim.

Here's 2 of the three areas. I can't get a good picture of the third. The stupid camera keeps focusing on the reflection instead of the paint.
So does anyone know, can this be attributed to low paint quality? Or do I have to file a claim and watch my insurance rates go up? Does anyone know, can they repaint just the damaged area or do they have to repaint the entire fender? There's a few tiny spots on the hood, but since it's fiberglass I'm not as stressed (plus they're not as visible).

No its not because of low paint quality, it will happen to any car that gets egged. Most insurance companies consider vandalism a comprehensive claim. That being the case most insurance companies won't raise your rate on a comprehensive claim. You still have to pay your deductible though.

Looks bad. At least down to the primer. I would call your insurance company first.
Sorry that people have to do this kind of crap.

Now I am even more pissed at ibeck!
OP... sorry about your misfortune. Its bullcrap that this happens... Egg is very damaging to paint. As Tom said, comprehensive claim (an unavoidable act) and your rates wont go up. |

The egg shell is more damaging to paint than the contents of said egg.The contents will usually come off with no paint damage as long as it isn't left to bake on to the paint.
The shell on the other hand is like shrapnel,it will pierce the paint right down to metal,it doesn't matter who's paint it is. |
