power hungry (cai talk)
Here in v6-ville we aren't exactly starved for horsepower but i'm sure we can all agree more is better (in this case)
looking over the Jannetty testing results CAI makes the most HP/torque gain from a cold air intake... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VE&hl=en#gid=0 DUE TO "adm scoop" - are these resulting gains relative for our v6? (aka they gained 13hp/9tq...do we?) - wasn't injen the most powerful cai? - do we get CAI inc/Vararam cai discounts here? ![]()

The Vararam intake makes 25-30 hp, per the vendors here. It was released after the Jannetty testing i believe.

From what ive seen, several members have gained 20hp/20tq solid over stock. That was at a minimum. As vendors and VR claims, results have been as high as 25HP/TQ. I asked a vendor on here last week if this was at the wheels or crank. He stated wheels. Which would make sense since the dyno results are HP/TQ numbers at the wheels. You'll pay more for the VR but get more IMO.

I don't know if I would believe as far as 30+ hp but there is definitely a boost in power at high speed pass 80mph. When ram air is effective there are a few key things that need to be incorporated. The time it take the air to travel from outside to the cylinders and a straight path, vararam has both in the design which also has its advantages over the others on the market.

isn't there less air going to VR relative to the race scoop?
look at this package! http://autoagenda.com/2010-camaro-v6...-scoop-package so....with respect to the initial goal of this post VR wins(?) haha i've gone from injen faithful, to CAI inc/ADM scoop die-hard to VR fanboy in less than an hour :/

I went with the Injen long tube since at the time it had better numbers and Scrming did an air temp/pressure test and the injen cools down faster and such. Just food for thought.

Not sure about the Vararam, but utilizing the stock intake scoop, we tested a bone stock auto V6 car before and after an Airaid Intake System install, same day, car stayed strapped down to the dyno, no heat soak before or after, so there was no fooling with numbers. The intake gained 12hp and 7tq. So compared to his data sheet the V6 model had a large gain over his tests.

Like any other performance part there are pros and cons vs other products. Some CAIs will perform slightly better than others, some visually look better than others, but they will come at a cost. Injen, Airaid, CAI, VR, & Roto-fab are all great intakes. Just a matter of how much u want to spend.
Also, the HP/TQ gains seen are usually "peak" hp gains. And this is usually at higher RPMS under WOT. I personally would go with an intake that had larger HP/TQ gains over stock in the mid RPM range, since this is where you will usually be under acceleration (even for normal driving). I mean, how often do you really hit 6000+ RPMS?

I love my CAI, CAI with ADM scoop and Roto-Fab washer relocator. All 3, along with a ported TB made a hugh difference in my V6's preformance and trottle response. |
