6060 vs 400 vs 4L80

Looking for some transmission advice!! I broke a level VI 6060 at lsx shootout (9310 shaft was in it)! RPM fixed the trans (I did have to pay) and it is ready to go back in the car.
Edit...It did not cost me any more $$ to fix this trans!

I am thinking of building a 400 just got the track and swapping back and forth!

Or just selling the 6060 and running a 400 all the time.

Or just run a 4l80 with the manual shift option or just get a controller and let the computer do the thinking.

Just looking over all the options and looking for some advise!!

Post away....

Won't the 400 kinda take highway driving out of the question? Seems like the 4l80 is the way the stick guys are going,

Yes the 400 would take some of the street ability out of the car. Overdrive is nice on the long hauls.

I have 3.70s now and if I stay with the 6060 I am going to need alot more gear. So that's more $$$ in to the drivetrain.

What's the consences on a manual shift 4l80??

DangeruSS has the manual shift 4l80e and he has some video posted up of him using it. I bought my car as an M6 because I have always loved a stick and thought autos were wussy but now I got a fully built 4l80e I absolutely love it and it is nice to focus on reaction time and groove rather than making shifts. I think it depends on what you want the car to do and being around you I think you will truly use your car as much on the street and less at the track and if you love a stick that much go with the stick 4l80e. I just knew I was going more track oriented and is why I went auto but its still awesome to drive and coming off of a trans brake is freaking awesome!!!

Th400 is pure track trans and would suck to drive on the street much.

Ditched 6060 to 4l80 not just for track times, but for ease of driving. Past 500rwhp, the 6060 was a bear to shift consistantly, and put extra stress on the rearend (and driver). Around town, its also so much simpler/easier with a nice auto+stall and overdrive. The 4l80 was a no-brainer for me.

Just reading this; Are you saying the TR6060 can't be built up properly to handle 1000rwhp.? I'm also looking for options for tranny so, hope you don't mind me piggy-backing on your thread.

Why did re-built TR6060 transmission break? What did fixing it resolve? Why wasn't it built that way to begin with?

Along with the usual players Bowler, RPM and Jakes I found this company.

Has anyone ever heard of these guys? They seem to have a huge selection of tranny builds, reasonably priced and some can handle "huge" power.

No TR6060 built or not is going to hold up being thrashed by 1000hp. The most common controller used for the 4l80e is the PCS 2000 which is what I am running. It is really nice to be able to manually adjust your trans with a computer.

Well I running 650+ rwhp and broke the 9310 output shaft at the track! Broke due to hard launching on a 20s and drag radials! Rpm just replaced the output shaft & carbon rings for the 1-2 shift. Put on some slicks to take up some of the shock is the suggested method from destroying it again!

Considering this car is going to spend plenty of time on the track...I am really looking into a 4l80 setup.

Do it Andrew, you wont regret it. Once my car is back together you should take a test drive and see just how much fun a 4l80e can be

Do the 4l-80e and never look back.....But at your power level you may save weight and do 4L-60E ......there are many 650+ GTO out there as well as TBSS running hard and living...
