I've been wondering this as well.....and are there systems that mount out of sight? I don't want a system that has to be suctioned cupped to the damn windshield.....

Ya they are. The more you pay the better you are. I bought one from target for 50 bucks and it saved me plenty of times. I cut off the cig plug and mounted in the corner of my windshield at eye level so if I had my music up I could still see it flashing. It was tapped into the fuse on between the drivers side door and airvent. So whenever I turned on ACC the radar would turn on.
Good brands Valentine one Escort Beltronics

It has to be visable to see the radar and laser but you could prob. conceal it.

I have a Beltronics, I do use the suction cups on the windshield but mount it behind my rear view mirror. I can take the cord off when not going to use it and its not that noticeable.

Laser/LIDAR is the choice of most LEO's. A laser ping on your detector will simply be a signal to pull over.

Remember, they are illegal in some states. If a cop stops you and you have one and he sees it, you are gauranteed a ticket. I had one once. I crested a hill, it lit up at full chat, the trooper already had me. Some people swear by them. I can't help but remember what happened to me. The one that I had won the shootout that year too.

K40 RL series with laser defuser hands down. And you can have it custom installed where the led's are set in an inconspicuous spot.

I have a Passport 9500ix that's saved me many times, but as mentioned, if LIDAR goes off and you aren't in a pack of traffic, go ahead and pull over. But remember, no radar detector can overcome stupidity. Use common sense when exceeding the speed limit (by a little), don't appear aggressive, and you will likely be left alone whether you have a detector or not. That being said, I sometimes drive like an idiot.

Right. They are not illegal in my state. A cop friend told me that if he sees one you get a ticket because you are supposedly on equal footing with your self defense detector and that you are showing him that you are a dedicated scofflaw.
