Camaro Disciple specific question, ...on cost

To avoid too much overlap with the threads Janet started, ...I wanted to ask a specific question, ... about cost.
It's commonly asked of us,
..."How much do you think people would be willing to pay for (fill in the blank)?"

For example:
Upgraded seats (ie. heated/cooled seats such as the Recaro's in the Caddy)
...what's a (realistic) price point where you would consider this?

Kevin,

I would have entertained around $1500.00 - $2000 for upgraded seats on my incoming Z. ...If they were fully-powered, cooled, and as supportive/comfortable as the Cadillac's. Any higher, and I am happy enough with the sueded seats to pass on the option.

Problem is -- that may be a tall order...$1500 is what the Recaro seats in the Mustang cost, and I wasn't happy with those units at all.

Was seats the only thing you were curious about?

...not at all limited to seats. The cost question pretty much goes to anything on a 'wish list'. Upgraded seats is an item voiced often, ...just used it as an example.

Another example (which might be harder to nail down since it depends on specifics) ... a suspension package (track pack, ...1LE).
What are people willing to pay for this?

OR, ...the 'radio'. What (realistic) cost adder would you be willing to pay, ...for (let's say) something like the Cadillac Cue system?

I would pay 1500.00 for a real upgraded audio system. Meaning not the BA stuff which kind of sucks. But for a better system with Navigation, subwoofer and have the BA as stock.

I would say the average "on sticker" for the stereo/NAV upgrade is $1,500 which I would be willing to pay for something like the CUE system in my Camaro. The Camaro is a FUN car - it should have the bells and whistles that even the smallest subcompacts are offering right now. (yes, I know a lot of the electronics we are seeing now are on new platforms...where as development of the Camaro started in 2006)

Something I think GM is missing the boat on is factory approved - WARRANTIED - upgrades to these cars. Look at Ford's program with the Mustang - lots of Factory approved and warrantied power adders and kits. GM sees us so much as towel off the ECM and it is bye bye warranty. They need to do something for both the V8 and V6 models to allow buyers to personalize their cars without losing the factory warranty.
We would all be willing to spend money on this...just read people's mods lists to see how much they are willing to fork out.

I would be willing to spend another $395 to add the multiple functions that the Challenger and Mustang offer in the DIC - the timers and the engine information/temps/ect would be greatly appreciated.

I would be willing to pay whatever the option is on a like model from GM or even a comparative from the Challenger or the Mustang if the feature set is the same.

This would be for:
Seats
NAV/Entertainment/etc
Performance packages

Yes the timer, g-force, etc. toys would be fun for $200. - $300.

I would pay $2,500 more to get all red interior or all white as long as it was a good quality leather and not just accent colors. Only offered in the ZL1 trim. It would set the car apart even more from the SS.

Gotcha!

fwiw...Options I think I would have checked if they had been available are $200 push-start...$1800 sport seats...and maybe a $1000 color Navi unit. I can't think of much else the car doesn't already have!

Kevin - EXCELLENT question! It's something that needs to be taken into consideration when thinking about various new features.......

a few other thoughts to think about as you give us your feedback (and I don't want to hinder your thinking - it's important that we hear your thoughts)

1. - while it would be great to 'free-flow' options -the reality is that some things MUST be packaged into 1LT or 2LT or 1SS or 2SS -- otherwise you add huge cost and more complexity and tons of additional part #s.....the industry as a whole is reducing build combinations rather than adding to them....and there's a reason for that.....cost and quality.

2. -- I'm noticing a lot of remarks about weight - and we take weight very seriously - it robs fuel economy and of course performance - BUT - I'm seeing many say "Save weight" - and then right after that "offer hide-away headlights" (which, for example, adds a LOT of weight --

.....I guess what I'm saying is that we want to hear all of your ideas - BUT - give us what you see as the most important stuff first -- as there will always be 'trade-offs' --- and then the 'nice to haves' .......

And lastly - WE DO want to hear what's on your mind...and that's but one of the many reasons for "The 12 Disciples of which there are 15!"

The only option on my 1LT I purchased was the C & C package. And only because of the leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter. Just before mine was built (Oct '09) C & C added the back up sensors. Cool, bonus! I did not buy the RS package. Didn't own an iPod until my son pointed out I could hook one up in the car. My point is, don't take the car away from the blue-collar folks that are just happy to own one. I wouldn't use heated/cooled seats, I don't even know what a BA stereo is, nor do I think I need one. I am seriously looking at the 1LE (hoping it comes to light).

I love my '91 RS B4C Camaro and it has none of these cool whatchamajiggers on it.

GM built an awesome car. I would hate to be the disciple that has to top it! Thank you
