LUCAS SUPER COOLANT ADDITIVE TEMP & DYNO TESTS

LUCAS SUPER COOLANT ADDITIVE TEMP & DYNO TESTS

When Lucas Oil asked if Kenne Bell was interested in testing their Super Coolant, we were apprehensive. We’ve heard some positive comments but our policy has never changed at Kenne Bell. We only believe it if we test it ourselves. We just couldn’t imagine how an additive could result in any cooling improvement over water.

We had already performed hundreds of tests on reducing charge temps through the design of supercharger heat exchangers, pumps, superchargers, fans coolant-water mixtures etc. but admittedly nothing on additives.

Well, the Kenne Bell test vehicle was already on the dyno with our 12 channels data logger hooked up. We were running E85 vs gasoline, HP, combustion chamber and exhaust temp comparisons. So, we spent two days testing coolants with Lucas Super Coolant. The stuff does work. It lowered intercooler fluid temp 6 degrees and increased power by 8HP.

The boost also dropped .3 psi, a sure sign the cooler intercooler water was actually cooling the air charge.

100% STOCK 2010 CAMARO (NO HEADERS, CAT BACK, NOS, CAM, HEADS ETC) MANUAL TRANS W CENTERFORCE CLUTCH, 18 PSI BOOST -2.8 MAMMOTH KIT WITH 102MM THROTTLE BODY

1. Similar results can be expected on any air to water supercharger application.

2. Adding another bottle of Lucas Super Coolant did not help. Two bottles worked best. That’s one of the benefits of controlled testing. Sometimes, more isn’t better.

3. NHRA doesn’t like coolant at their events as it’s difficult to clean up and presents a traction/safety issue. It’s even prohibited in some classes.

4. Lucas claims the Super Coolant contains anti corrosives and lubricant additives that allow the use fo 100% water but NEVER run water only.

Here is the video of Lucas Oil at Kenne Bell doing some testing.

Can you elaborate on the mixture used in the testing? You said two bottles, was the rest just water? And what was the control mixture, just plain water?

The mixture was our standard 70% water 30% coolant with and without two bottles of the super coolant.

Thanks for clarifying. How about total volume of coolant? Were you using an oversized tank or the one that comes with the KB (which I have to admit I do not know how big it is).

Redline water wetter makes similar claims. Has that product been tested as well?

I believe it is the stock fuel pump with the BAP, KB rails that come with the kit and some 105lb injectors. I will confirm this with Ken when he gets in tomorrow.
