TPMS dash light = failed smog test?

Will a TPMS dash light cause a car to fail a smog check?

And I'm not talking about the sniff test, I'm talking about the diagnostic check using the OBDII port.

I wouldn't think so since is has nothing to do with emissions....but in Cali you never know rite..

Will your blower pass there?I wasn't sure if Lyslom had the cert yet.

I sent an email to lysholm yesterday asking for an update. Still no word yet. I'm pretty sure I'm going to part out my car and return it to stock anyway. 1LE baby! I will probably sell the lysholm and buy a CARB friendly Maggie or whipple when the 1LE comes in.

Sent from my abacus using precise finger movements......

I don't believe so. TPMS system isn't an engine diagonstic check. It would be similar to the low oil light being on.

CA law is really jacked up... when you go in for a smog check, they are required to perform the test (and charge you!), but it is ILLEGAL for them to tell you ahead of time that a dash light will fail your test. It's an automatic fail See #6 in the following link: http://www.smogtips.com/six_things.cfm

This page here: http://www.smogtips.com/functional_inspection.cfm spends a lot of time describing the automatic failure if the "Check engine" light is on. However, no mention is made of the TPMS sensors failing a test.

I would GUESS that they would not be an automatic fail... but would recommend when you walk into a shop for the smog, that you ask the tech, before you even start, if TPMS will fail the test.

Is the testing for SAFETY and environmental? That would let them fail you.

The CA DMV website indicates that anything that has to to with efficiency/ fuel mileage can be an automatic fail... so, it's up to the interpretation of our CA politicians, who are brilliant scientific and technical wizards (same folks who decided that if a firearm LOOKS scary, it is therefore so dangerous it must be outlawed)... and they COULD make the argument (as much of a stretch as it might be) that faulty TPMS operation COULD lead to riding on under-inflated tires.... thus affecting fuel economy.

In certain states a working TPMS is required. FACT. Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermot and West Virginia I can confirm for sure.

California sucks.

Always has.

Always will.

"This topic is known by the state of California to cause residents to worry."

Do a Google search for 'Most hated state in America'.
