Review after test drive - finally (2LT RS)

After sitting in a couple Camaros at the Cleveland Auto Show, and drooling over this sites' pictures and videos, I finally got to test drive a dealer 2LT RS Silver Ice Metallic yesterday. It was VIN #0013. This sucker must have been sitting on the Oshawa lot for a while.

First of all - I have no pictures. There are plenty of pics on this site, and there is no need to be redundant. This is one beautiful automobile.

Attention: those who ordered the V6 -- DO NOT EVER DOUBT THE POWER YOU ARE GOING TO GET WITH THIS ENGINE. It has awesome, smooth acceleration. It immediately washed away any doubt I had with not ordering the V8. Not sure if I ever want to drive the V8 to compare, but nonetheless be confident in your V6 decision.

The things that surprised me the most are the handling, comfortable ride, and the quietness of the cabin. I didn't have a chance to take it on a curvy road, but taking corners is tight. Steering is incredibly responsive. I went over some uneven railroad tracks, and could barely tell they were there. GM must have spent a lot of time on the suspension, and the sound deadening.

The exhaust note is raspy, revved it up while parked and it sounds pretty good -- sounds much much better under acceleration. Not sure if I want to upgrade the exhaust or not.

I can see how people might think of the "tank gun turret" view while sitting in this car, but like others have said - it melts away after about 5 minutes of driving. The seats are really comfortable - the leather and stitching are very high quality. I think the whole interior of the Camaro is high quality. I don't understand the negative comments on this at all. Very nice all the way around. The back seat was not made for adults, probably okay for car seats or children.

Those of you that bailed for another car, you will be sorry. There is no other car out there that looks, feels, or excites like this beast. After waiting almost 7 months already (ordered Oct. 15), I can now pull out another few weeks of patience.

Thanks for the write up. I agree with you about the interior. I don't understand the big stir up about it. I was impressed with it, and love the seemless dash, a very nice touch. It will be interesting seeing some modded V6's, I bet it will surprise some people! Thanks again, well said.

Agree with you! Drove one as well

With you 100% on this. Also drove a 2LT (see bad pics) ABM. Serious pep for a six-banger.

Got to play with the tap shift and it works great and is loads of fun! No issue with blind spot. Most notable viewing issues were how low the rearview mirror "appears" to hang (or really how raked the windshield is) and the view out the back is minimal.

You can't tell by these pics but the ABM looks fantastic. Great color! Only 4 more months to go (probably)....

Two kids rode in the back seat and they loved it!

Oh, yeah - forgot to include the part about the tapshift. It's a nice little gizmo, but I don't think it's very practical. I think it would get boring after a short time. I was bored with it about 5 minutes after starting to use it. I think if you want to shift, you should be getting a manual transmission. Just my opinion.

Xanthos posted some videos of how he is going to make the V6 sound. Check out his project thread. http://camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16988

I agree, drove an LT RS, red, cloth seats, connectivity package, dealer told me to have fun, treat it like it was mine (mine is one of the ones in the land of Oz). Great acceleration, went across the new dragstrip, I mean new bridge across the Ohio, over 1 mile, got over 100 each way, smooth, Live in the boonies, very hilly and twisty road, handled very well. Any who said to hang your head if you got a V6, hang them high!! Very quiet, quick, smooth. Drove the V6 Challanger right afterwards - disappointing, nice car, but no comparison, and the Mustang small V8 isn't any better. Don't give up, it's worth the wait! Mine is a V8, but not a daily driver, the V6 is a great car, better than the competition.
