Different type of exhaust question
Hey guys! I have an exhaust question! Before everyone complains since its another exhaust thread, my question is a little different. My buddy, a 5th gen owner as well, already has his exhaust picked out and just has some technical questions. Here is what my buddy is doing.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138109 Okay, he already got his flowmaster muffler and has some questions. He went to an exhaust shop and the shop stated it was dangerous to place the muffler there because of the driveshaft apparently. Also, he states that the muffler is too thick and will rub on speed bumbs constantly. Finally, he is charging about 200 to place the muffler where the resonators are and cut off the stock mufflers and replace with straight pipes. What do you guys think? Any of this true? What about the price? Thanks a lot in advance! |

wus up. IDK bout the price, but as far as the location of every thing I would think from the pictures that you should have sufficient clearance. The drive shaft should not be swinging just spinning, yes the angle does flex but I'd assume that the exhaust was put on with the car lifted, Yes? on jacks or a lift if so the suspension was at full travel, their for if the drive shaft had clearance you should be fine! But Im not their I cant say for sure. As far as scrapping on speed bumps and what not, if your/hes lowered yeah prob. but if stock hight i think you'd be good just go slow. I see what your saying, it makes a lot of sense. I talked to my friend and he doesn't care taking speed bumps slowly or at an angle so that should make the clearance problem okay. That sound about right?

Place the muffler where the resonator are, meaning, single flowmaster mufler 2 in and 2 out and muffler delete in the rear? what ever the case might be, the muffler does not have to be where the resonator is. If I was him this is how I would do it.
Leave the resonator, get rid of the factory "H" and replace with magnaflow part number 11386(perforated x-pipe), I actually have one for sale for only 65 shipped. anyhow, try to install the perforated x as close towards the engine. The closer the X is towards the header, better the scavenging, which mean faster exhaust gas dissapation, better power. Then he can either do a muffler delete in the rear or replace with any aftermarket mufflers. I would do mid perforated X with something like MRTV2 or any good mufflers. 1 single muffler will be TOOOOOOOO LOUD for most folks! I hope I made some sense to you guys here. PM me if you have Any more Q. rtcat600man actually have a really good pic of how he installed his perforated X. Peoples forget the whole purpose of how X benefit over H, and placement is also very important to get the most out of it. |
