Concept vs. Production Camaro Dimensions
I tried searching old posts to find the answer for this but was unsuccessful. I did use the search though to find the dimensions, so at least the search came in handy for that. Anywho, I was looking through some of my old Bumblebee (concept) pictures and I kept thinking that it just looked lower, wider and longer than the final production model. I found the following on Dimensions:
Bumblebee - L - 186.2 W - 79.6 H - 53.0 Production - L - 190.4 W - 75.5 H - 54.2 Is there a post somewhere that tells why they cut out over 4 inches in both length and height. I'm not complaining about it, I'm just curious. Thanks

If I remember correctly bumblebee wasn't built by chevy, they gave the dimensions to saleen and they built it in house. At the time they only had the 2 concept cars that they used at detroit and LA autoshows

Bumblebee was made with the same molds as the original silver and red (and orange convertible) concept cars. The molded body was then put over a Pontiac GTO chassis for the movie. They didn't "cut out" any inches from the prodution car because Bumblebee was done before it was even started. The production car was made with real-world criteria to look as much like the concept car as possible.

According to your figures there, the production model is about 4 inches longer than the concept.

When you look at Bumblebee from side on.. the hood stretches out much longer. The car looks like a train! (I'm into trains!) The four wide was probably the quarter panels. Bumblebee has the gas cap near the trunk lid on top. I don't think that the cap would ffit in the same place on the production car.

My fault on the length. Weird, to me the concept looks so much longer but I guess I'd have to see them side by side. I'm guessing the height difference was also partly due to making the car actually useable by taller individuals and also for people to see better. I remember hearing the smaller windows on the concept were even harder to see out than the production windows. Thanks for everyone's input.

If I read correctly, the height gain was forced by Australia restrictions of something or other. And I was sure that the concept had a longer hood!
Oh well.. stunnedness prevails once again!

Well the final package engineering was done in Australia so it was Australian engineers that insisted that the design be enlarged enough that people could actually sit in it but it's nothing specific to Australia.

i used to be angry that the production came out a little pudgier and i was actually mad at the australians for changing the dimensions of the conept...
but the production car is still incredibly beautiful....i just wish it was a little shorter and longer but its still the sexiest modern car in my opinion and i'll still feel down to earth driving a camaro...i'd feel like a douche driving a lambo...
