Im removing the vortech ducting and fliter that wraps around to the front of the SC, and putting on a Larger filter directly on the intake side of the SC. I got the idea for a few members on here, EAST COAST SUPERCHARGING does it as well, but what im need to know is, what do I do with the line that comes off the front of the passenger side vavle cover and goes into the bottom of the vortech air filter? I have a small breather filter, but does that line need any suction of the intake or is it a strickly breather and Im good the the small filter ?

It would do better with some evac suction honestly. Keep it in the end of the filter.

I just got a spectre filter, I drilled into the end of it on the ring and put the elbow in and ran the breather tube from there, its ugly as hell but works....... I made 708 rwhp to v3 vortech 8.2psi w/ 3.33" pulley 11.5 to 12.0 air fuel 16 deg timing, intake temps hit 118.
If anyone wants I can post pictures of the setup, I actually looks pretty cool minus the breather tube, and I can list my mods Tuning was done by Clint at American Intense Racing in Denver CO |

As far as timing goes, thats a whole different language to me, I told my tuner that I wanted the car to be safe and thats what he did. I was happy once we broke the 600 RWHP hut the car was still extremely rich we ended with the numbers above.
I have 1 7/8" LT headers w/o cats, 3" MBRP exhaust, 85lb FAST injectors, ZL1 fuel pump, KB BAP (which I dont really need), Livernois stage 2R MAX cam ( not a true blower cam, but it works, also why my boost is only 8.2 ), upgraded valve train, Vortech V3 tuner kit w/ 3.33" pulley, spectre air filter ( deleted the stock ducting ) Last edited by MyOrangeSS; 09-16-2012 at 01:57 AM. |

im running 19degrees and it will pull 20,21 degrees on my hp tunner scanner im putting down a little over 600 rwhp on ab 6psi boost but im also still a little on the rich side also, i just figured it would hold more than 16 degrees of timming but at your numbers i would be happy and wouldnt mess with it anything! congrats

How are you evacuating the crankcase?

I guess my photos didnt load, Im still not sure how to do that, but anyway, I kept the vortech breather tube off the passenger front valve cover and drilled into the chrome ring on the end of the filter and pretty much run the same setup as the vortech system. I can email photos or if someone can explain how to put up photos?

Most likely your photos are too large, try resizing them on a website, then upload them. Try like a 600x600 size, then put them in as a photo link in the advanced menu. Should work then.

You will realize longer life and should see less timing pulled if you actually do a evac system on the car. The way Vortech or any of the FI systems come is only dealing with venting excess crankcase pressure and you are getting some oil ingestion in that way and any oil contamination in the intake air charge is going to cause some detonation. If you want more info let me know and I'll link you to the threads.

The IAT affect timing. you have to lower the timing with higher IAT. Also more pressurized air fuel mixture more chance for detonation. And don't forget it depends also on the fuel type.
