Greetings from a new member here from Auburn WA!

I have been on here for a few months and just listening and learning. Today, me and the CRT 2LT/RS got stuck in bumper-to-bumper-stop-and-go traffic on Hwy-167 north bound when a blocking accident that happened at the Kent Des Moines (Hwy-516) exit (Pray no-one was hurt.) No movement for 45 minutes in all lanes.

Got really bored and decided to watch the digital read-out of the engine coolant temperature. It climbed from the normal 187 degrees to degrees to 222 and back down to 203 on a 50 degree day. The first time it reached 222, I was worried.

So what is the hottest you have ever seen the engine coolant temperature climb to and what kind of driving were you doing and what was the outside temperature and are you a V6 or V8?

I've never looked at the digital display of that.... then again, I don't often do stop and go traffic in the Camaro...
Have you been able to find out if that was normal? I recall reading that the 200 range was normal...

Can't help either. I changed mine out to a 160 thermostat. So mine runs around the 160 to 170 range. Factory setting is a 195 thermostat.

Welcome, Brian! I can't really answer your question since my Camaro is stored for the winter and I don't recall my summer temps.

That is still in the normal range for what I have seen. I look at that readout a lot when I let the car warm up in the morning. I usually wait to roll until it gets up to 100F. In stop and go, 220's is something you might see, but once you start rolling it will drop down as it starts recycling the fluid.

227 When driving in stop and go traffic. Like Keving2873 said it drops pretty fast once you get moving.

I recall there being some discussion about this in the 6cyl engine forum... And if I remember, it was normal. I'll see if I can find it.

The fans kick on around 220 degrees and go off around 200 degrees. I'd say what you saw was normal.
