240 - G-Tech Pro SS Performance Meter any idea's?

I am getting very frustrated with my car, no dyno's around here.

Do these things work? http://www.jegs.com/i/G-Tech/910/240/10002/-1

I am willing to get it and see what's what.

You can calculate all of those things if you know the weight of the car, tire height, time to 60, etc. etc. etc. so I presume that this should work, not sure about the accuracy though.

I'd say go for it.. that way you'll have rock solid data to compare with other SS's in your area....it's definitely the more "scientific" way to prove your car is not right.

Good luck!

I have a much older version (probably a totally different model) of the G-Tech Pro. I can't speak for the new version, but on mine, using it for a direct horsepower reading was kind of flaky, and I got numbers that didn't make a lot of sense. It did work surprisingly well at measuring 1/4 mile time. But it also read the trap speed about 3 MPH higher than the track.

But to use the G-Tech, you need a straight, flat road (where it's safe to go full throttle, so no traffic or cross-streets). Depending on where you live it can be hard to find a safe road to simulate a dragstrip.

Anyway, my point is, it can give you a good ballpark on 1/4 and 0-60 times but I don't think it's a substitute for a dyno. And I doubt a GM dealer would pay any attention to any data from it.

Don't throw good money after bad if you think there's something wrong with your car. Bug your dealer until they replace it; all you have to do is learn to be annoying; I know lots of folks who could teach you that particular trade.

Your ECU might be faulty like my computer was. GM had to change it out because the car was retarding timing too much making it much slower than it should be.

But my check engine light came on for that, so i dunno

it sure seems like the ratio could be better... just sayin....

These things work pretty well, and are a lot of fun to use. Based on what you are saying, your car is probably running high 14's so if you show that to the dealer, I think you will have a pretty good case that something is wrong here. Don't give up, you'll get it figured out. The only problem with a dyno is for a 4th gear pull, the ECM may not retard the timing or close the throttle on you like it is probably doing in first and second gear. 1/4 mile runs are really the best indicator. I say get the G-tech, you will enjoy it.
