Track Day Brakes 1LE

I currently have a Camaro 1LE. I plan on using this on about 6 to 10 HPDE per year. I am currently Intermediate Solo. My previous vehicle had a 6 piston/4 piston Big brake Kit. Here is my proposed setup. Tell me what you think. I have been going back and forth about replacing the front calipers with the 6 piston units from the ZL1/CTS-V. Im not sure that is necessary. Tell me what you think??

1.Front 3 inch cooling ducts connected to dust sheild. As others have done on Camaro 5

2.Giro Disc titanium pad sheilds

3.Front DBA 5000 2 Piece Slotted Rotors Hawk HP+ Pads
Rear DBA 4000 Slotted Rotors Hawk HP+ Pads

4. SS Brake Lines.Motul 600 or ATE BLUE? Which do you prefer?

5. Seperate Clutch Reservoir? Necessary?

Will this be sufficient?

Any Suggestions would be appreciated

At a minimum, the brake lines and better fluid will help. I like the clutch resevoir to separate the fluid. Personally, the DBA rotors, the 4000 series for sure are heavier than stock rotors, so would go with something else. HP+ pads are ok, but I have been told to run higher heat pads by Carbotech or Cobalt, so will be trying those soon.

So the DBA 4000 are heavier then the stock rears? By how much? What about the 2 piece DBA 5000?

Yes, they are a 1 to 2lbs heavier than stock rotors, I was surprised too when I saw the shipping weight on mine.
I didn't have the DBA 5000 rotors, just the DBA 4000 front/rear.

If you're going to buy rotors, buy the Racing Brake 2 piece rotors that are lighter than stock by at least a few pounds.

I guess I'm assuming that the DBA 5000 two piece rotors would be lighter then stock. I could understand if the 4000 were not. I guess I am just anal unwanted two piece for the front And one piece for the rear and didn't see racing brake making non 2 piece rears. That's why I'm posting. Trying to get as much info as possible

Try contacting DBA for the actual weights then you can compare better. I have besides lines, fluid, racing brake rotors on front and hawk hp plus pads. It was fine my first track day in Daytona and I will run the same at Sebring in July. I plan on upgrading to CTS-V front caliper and rotors when I get my 1LE for greater doing power along with brake ducts. The CTS-V parts are about $1200 plus shipping for everything you need. Just need to paint them to match the rears.

A lot is going to depend on your budget and what you really need. Here's a thread with a track test of Racing Brake's 2-piece rotors by a guy who pushed them about as hard as anybody probably would:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294470

I have the RB rotors front and rear, stainless brake lines and Super Blue brake fluid. The braking feel and improvement is considerable. I'm also running RB's ET500 pads all around which are a performance/street pad; that was all they had available 3 years ago when I made this upgrade. They now have track/street pads. I posted the link and info in post 90 on that thread link above.

RB rotors aren't as cheap as other brands but they deliver what other brands don't; considerable reduction in unsprung rotating weight, and they run about 150° cooler on the track than the cheaper rotors. For road course racing, reducing the unsprung rotating weight on all 4 corners as well as allowing for better cooling under hard braking are huge benefits. Improving acceleration and suspension response while cornering are additional benefits the other brake upgrades aren't going to give you. You get what you pay for with RB.

So did you upgrade the calipers as well as rotors?? That's my biggest debate. I may just bite the bullet and do the 2 piece on all four corners

I am going to run at Road America next month, which I haven't run on, but the guys who run there frequently advised me to upgrade the brake pads to ensure they are up to the demands of that track...I would rather swap pads and not have to worry about it...

I would suggest you change your brake fluid at least once if you do as many as 10 track days.

I did not, but I'm looking at the upgraded caliper from RB that's soon to be available. Not sure if I want to go upgraded 4 pot or just go with a 6 pot in the front. The stock Brembos with RB rotors have been a pretty darned good combo so far but last time I was at Autoclub Speedway in Fontana there were a couple times I could feel I needed more grip in the front.

Something to keep in mind though was I upgraded my rotors 3 years ago when upgrades for 5th gen Camaros were few and hard to come by. There are a lot more choices now although I still think RB's rotors are tops for an upgrade because of the cooling, the weight and the sheer quality.

I can tell you for a fact if you upgrade just the rotors, brake lines and fluid you'll be amazed at the improvement over stock. If you do all 4 rotors at the same time, you should be able to tell a difference in how the car accelerates. Cornering is more subjective unless you've done a lot of track time and can tell the difference, but it's there. If you can tell the difference in how the car accelerates and handles with and without a 240 lb passenger in the car, you'll be able to tell the difference the RB rotors make.
