Removal of power window motor on a 1988 Iroc Z

I have owned my 1988 Iroc Z for the last 12 years and this evening the drivers side power window motor finally went out. I purchased a new one; however removing the original one is proving to be quite a challange. It seams to me that the best way to remove the motor is to drill out the two screws or rivits which seam to be holding the motor in place. Am I missing something, or is this job that difficult?

The job is a pain in the a$$. If i remember correctly, you'll need to remove the rivits that hold it in place. Be careful when you seperate the motor from the arms because the coil will uncoil and can cut you pretty bad. We used some straps to keep it from uncoiling. Good luck and don't get frustrated.

i have to do the same thing, my passenger side window is PAINFULLY slower than the drivers side one.

Thanks for the information on the dificulty of this task. You are right about the rivits. I started drilling them out, but did not get either one finished the first night I worked on it. After reading your post I decided to check around to see how much it would cost me to have the motor installed by a shop rather than taking on the job my self. It was going to run me an extra $160. Some was the fact that the shop who would do the work would only use their own motor and it costs more than the Autozone one I had, but most was the 1-1/2 hours of labor. I decided to pay the extra $160.
