How to get in touch with Chief Camaro Engineer Al

There is a thread on the ZL1 forums where this poor fella is having issues with odor of burning oil coming from his vents. He has taken the car to the dealer a few times and finally the GM DM came in and told him it's a normal occurrence with ZL1s and will no longer offer to get it looked at as it has been already a few times.

I think that's bullshit that it's normal for any car to emit a burning oil odor that comes into the vents.

I suggested he contact Al Oppenheimer (sp?) and get his professional opinion as he is the man when it comes to the ZL1 I think. I looked for his contact info, and I can't find anything. I was hoping to find at least an email... nothing.

Any suggestions? I just want to help this guy out and get his car straightened out. It's not fair to him.

If Al Oppenheiser wanted his e-mail out in public, he probably would have made it easy to find. That said ... he could try PMing him. Al is a member here (screen name aloppen). No guarantee that he'll respond though, I'm not sure how often he visits the site or what he does when he's here.

Has he tried contacting our resident Chevy Customer Service rep? Issues like that are one of the things they are here to try and help with.

There's no way that his contact information is public for good reason. Every complaint would end up going straight to him, regardless of how minor.

There is a way for this to get to the right people, and the chief engineer is not the right person right now. There's no reason to jump the chain. If the local dealer is not fixing the issue, try another dealer. If there's still no resolution, then Chevrolet Customer Service can help.

Yeah, you kind of have to be someone to get contact info like that.

I'd say in a situation like this contact the service reps on here.

Surprised I'm not familiar with the thread you're talking about. I'll have to look now.

How to get in touch with Chief Camaro Engineer Al

When I had the problem Fbodfather worked it up the channels to some high up GM engineers and corporate execs. Basically they all said this is a normal smell and nothing can be done, this was over the course of 3 months at the end GM offered to buy my car back (I decided not to). My car now has 6K miles on it and honestly I really don't smell it anymore, and thinking back on it I'm beginning to think it really wasn't an oil smell. I think its some kind of glue/solvent that is used somewhere in the HVAC system they eventually mellows out.

My case is well documented with GM if anyone would like to cross reference or need info. I also have a contact in the GM corporate office. Just PM me.

Here are some Oil Smell topics:
