The paint on my SS badges is starting to chip off. I have removed them and want to paint the red part black. I want to keep the silver trim. What is a safe way to remove this red paint with out scuffing up the silver trim? Is there a paint remover that will not harm the 'chrome' finish? Thx.

That sounds really tricky. The colored part of those emblems are real narrow. Have u considered an over lay decal/vinyl?

Not too worried about the difficulty level. My wife is really good at detail stuff. I just want to get the chipping paint off rather than paint over it. Besides. If I can find a safe remover then I can remove as many times as needed to get it right.

A small flat head screw driver should get in there. If your wife is good with a small/thin brush, she shouldn't have a problem painting it. Another alternative is plastidip but you'd probably have to do the whole emblem. The good thing is that you can do it on the car. Just tape off a small square around the emblem, then spray as many layers as you want. The excess will peel off pretty easily and a tooth pick will get the tight areas. There's a cool vid on youtube showing a guy doing it to a toyota truck's emblems.

I have the emblems off the car already. I used nail polish remover with acetone and soaked the emblems for about ten minutes. Paint peeled right off. Using a Qtip. I then used a small pick to make sure the edges were clean. They look pretty good just chrome. I need to get her some new brushes and she will start painting them. I go to Dubai tomorrow and won't be back until March so she has plenty of time. I'll post up pics when they are done. Thanks for y'all's suggestions.

Mind me asking how you removed them? I have RS badges I'm looking to have removed.

For the front I just followed the suggestions posted in my other thread.

It came out real easy using two interior trim removal tools. I got the whole thing out in one piece. For the rear I used dental floss but I have heard fishing line will work and then cleaned up the residue with 3M adhesive remover. I did hit it with the heat gun for about two minutes just because it had been unseasonable cold but I have done it without the heat gun before. Whole process took 15-20 min max for front and back. Getting the paint off took another 20 min just because I let them soak for ten minutes. GL.
