Is GM making a BIG mistake, closing the WRONG DEALERS?

So is GM making a mistake closing the dealers based on Volume? Well I can answer that..........F'in A they are.

My Dealer here in NY, TACONIC CHEVROLET, was forced to close down as of last friday. The owner and his employees were some of the nicest people I ever met and really took care of me the whole way through my wait. HONEST, FORTHCOMING and just plain CAR GUYS.

Well I took delivery only 1 day before they closed, by the grace of God and a couple of well placed phone calls. When the car came in it was perfect except a tiny little ding just above the pass rear wheel well. The salesman called me right away and told me about it and said Dent Doctor could take it out, no problem. I said, "but you guys are closing next week". He said do not sweat, the managers are here for two more weeks for clean out and the Sales Manager (a GREAT GUY named Dominic) will take care of it. Well I had no reason to not trust them, they have been honest from day one. I took delivery and enjoyed the car over the weekend. I get a call yesterday asking me to bring my car in today. I told them I leave too early and get home too late, they will not be there to accept or give me the car back and I cannot take a day off now.

This is where we go above and beyond. The sales manager actually drove with the dent guy to MY HOUSE and took care of it in my garage while I was at work. I left the door open in the AM with the alarm off. He watched and made sure it was repaired properly and escorted him back out. IT CAME OUT PERFECT! Now that is above bar and this guy is out of work, he did not need to do that, but he wanted me to be taken care of. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE GM CROSSES OFF A LIST WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THEY ARE KILLING. While some of the worst customer service dealers remain open. BIG MISTAKE GM.

Thanks Dominic, Cliff, Mario, James, Phil, Randy and the rest of the people at Taconic Chevrolet you were a class act and will be missed. I would follow these guys to whatever dealer they wind up in.

I got a small memento of the dealership. The big GLossy pages in the huge book showing the camaro and all the features. It even has the swatches of paint colors and actual pieces of cloth and leather from all the interior options. Thanks Guys!

hey, atleast you got your car! Sucks for the nice guys but I know if they remain that way they will succeed either way.

What makes more business sense, shutting down a dealer who sales 1 car a month or shutting down a dealer who sales 10 cars a month?

Sales people can be replaced but lost revenue can't.

Dealers that are closing now is by there own financial circumstance. The dealers GM is closing have a wind down period till next October and are receiving 1 million dollars from what I have read. I'm sure it was a great dealer but if they weren't making enough money...than sorry. Its easier to blame GM than themselves.

Wish I had a dealer like that, my dealer is a magician, he can pull the rug right out from under you! This battle is not over.

Lets be honest here, people... DO YOU REALLY THINK GM EVER MAKES GOOD DECISIONS???


Their heads are so far up their ass the tax payers had to buy them out of bankruptcy.... which is almost as big a bone head move as what got GM there in the first place....

There were many factors considered when terminating dealership contracts. Location, profit, sales figures, customer satisfaction just to name the top few. There was also an appeals process, that dealers who don't feel they deserve to be closed can dispute the closure decision. Some chose not to dispute, some did, but were denied....

Nobody can be sure if they're making a mistake by closing certain dealers.

But lets not turn this into a GM-bashing thread, because that's just ridiculous.
