Flowmaster?

Does anyone know if we can just cut out the mufflers and install some flowmaster 40 series or other series mufflers? If you just want a deeper tone, wouldn't this be cost effective?

You could but here's the response I got from Flowmaster when I asked about using the Hushpower II's on my v6.

Quote:
We just had our first V6 in the shop last week and you're right the stock exhaust does sound terrible. We tried a variety of different mufflers (including the HP-2) but Unfortunately I wasn't pleased with the sound of any of them. The tone wasn't bad but there was a noticeable "rap" under hard acceleration with anything we tried. I think I can address this by applying some other tricks up ahead of the mufflers but I ran out of time. Be cautious before you do anything, as I'd hate to see you spend your money on something you may not be happy with.

I'm floored by their response. That is so respectable.

I do want to let you know that R&D has tried a few of the different 40 Series mufflers on the V6 car, and what they heard wasn’t pretty!

I’m sure you’ve seen and heard the “tuner” cars running around with a loud “can” on the back. Unfortunately, your V6 with a loud muffler will begin to approach that kind of import sound. In the past, we’ve always recommended the 50 Series mufflers to help “tune” out the harshest and buzziest frequencies of the 6cyl. firing order.

If you do install a pair of louder mufflers, I’d go with the 40 Series Delta Flow versions, as they are also available in T409 stainless with 10 yrs. warranty, and have the deepest bass tone, a little less loud than the Super 44’s. Please let me know how you like whatever you decide to put on your car, as it would be great for future reference.

Good luck with your choices,

Dan
This is a response I got after asking if they were currently developing a system for the V6.

So it sounds like they just plain are not developing a specific system or setup of existing parts for the Camaro. That kind've bums me out if thats the truth, as now it is up to us to figure out what works and what does not.

I'm impressed with their honest responses...just wish they had a ready solution for us.

perhaps they are still working on one and don't want to announce it till they know it can be done right?

No... my experience during our experimenting say they are being open and truthful, which a VERY commendable thing! Be up front and not make a sale is a lot better than making a sale and then having a pissed off customer.... Which more companies would follow that! LOL! But I digress...

In our testing we found pretty much what flowmaster found when we tried a couple of chambered mufflers..... Mufflers that I thought would have sounded good ended up being just a bit to raspy...

That was why I was hoping the Hushpower II mufflers would work. They aren't the typical chambered design that Flowmaster is known for but I'm reluctant to try them out on my own because they aren't cheap.

Well, theres no way I'll go through the experimenting with exhausts like scrming did lol (which I thought was awsome of him to do by the way!)

Unless I hear something someone eventually does with a FM exhaust that sounds great...its Corsa or MBRP for me at this point.
