Anyone tried Hoosier R7 315/30/19 for track?

I should stop looking at TireRack only for my tire information. I just realized Hoosier released 19" R7s, supposedly longer-life replacements of R6s already!

Has anyone tried these tires? R6s are already known for their superior traction than pretty much any other tire but real race slicks. If these are similar or close, and can have more life than the Hoosier R6s, they could be a winner!

Note: I am not sure if using "315" tires would cause clearance issues. I would think not. The fitment range is listed as 11"-12". They are also incredibly light. Section width of OEM Trofeo Rs is identical 12.6", so they should have same clearance, but the thread width (probably measured on a 11.5" rim) is a whopping 12.4" compared to 11.3" of Trofeo Rs.

Diameter: 26.4"
Circumference: 83.1"
Weight: 27 pounds
Width Section: 12.6"
Width Tread: 12.4"
Required Rim Width: 11.0 - 12.0"
Manufacturer's Product Number: R46937R7

A friend of mine runs them for AutoX and really like them over the A6's. I can't give any personal feedback though.

Best regards,

I bet those would be awesome. Absolutely love the R6s. If R7s are grippier and last longer, that would be the tire I would run. I'm waiting for R7s in the 315/30-18 size for my machine.

Some call R6s purple crack, since they are claimed to provide traction like no other besides race tires, but they lose traction after about 4 days (16 heat cycles). If the R7 does heat cycle in twice the number of cycles with similar handling, then we could have the perfect tire that provides best traction, and heat cycle out only by the time it's also worn out. Just like the Proxes RR actually!

A lot of questions and assumptions to be tested

I'm reserving tires like these for a more dedicated track car.

Not necessarily a dedicated track car, but you'd definitely need a dedicated set of track wheels

I just realized these tires were released just 3 days ago! No wonder no one knows about them...

These are actually the A6 but should give you a good idea what they would look like

L99CAMA2011 pointed out to me that R7s might have lower load rating than we need. I could not find the load rating for this size, but for all the other (previously released) sizes listed on TireRack, the load rating are pretty dismal, around 1000 lbs. FYI, G:2 tires that comes stock with the 1LE carry 17xx lbs load rating.

They seem to have the same load ratings as the other Hoosiers but I was just cautioned when using these tires on heavier cars closer to 4000 lbs. I would call this number to get the full details on using tires like these on our cars.

I've run the same set of 315/30ZR19 R6 Hoosiers (on 19x11 Forgeline GA3Rs) for the last two years. Mixed autocross and track use. They've held up surprisingly well and have not heat cycled out yet. I need to rotate them front-to-rear and left-to-right and I can get another season out of them.

The R6's are AMAZING. I chose the R6 for durability and due to the excessive weight of the Gen5.

The Trefeos are rated 60 treadwear (according to tirerack.com). The Hoosiers are a 40 treadwear, so you get an idea of how sticky the Hoosiers are.

When running the Hoosiers for autocross, you must not allow them to overheat, otherwise, they will die. Everyone who runs the A6 or R6's will have a garden sprayer of water in the grid to cool down the tires between runs.

However, at $2000 a set of tires, it's a burden for any race budget.

No worries if you run the correct tire pressure.
