The steering on my 1998 3.8 Camaro is tight. It is fairly difficult to steer with 1 hand. I asked my dad about it, since his mechanical knowledge is much greater than mine, and he said the power steering pump might not be working. It has fluid and it does not leak. There is no whining or any other abnormal noises. Is it most likely the power steering pump or could it be something else? If it is the power steering pump, how difficult is it to replace it myself and about how long should it take? Any recommendation on a specific brand of pump or will this one from AutoZone be sufficient?

Mine has always been tight.
I replaced the pump because it was whining and I thought it was too tight as well, but the new one is just as tight.
As you said, it is fairly hard for me to turn it with one hand as well, but I think that is just how it is. My buddy has a 1996 and a 2000 and they both seemed the same, too.

Hmmm... thanks for the info. I seem to remember it used to be a littler easier to turn, but maybe I'm wrong.
