Winter Wheels+Tires for 2LT/RS

Hey Everyone! Got my car about 3 weeks ago, and have had the perma-grin ever since! But im worried about the winter roads here in Michigan. This is my daily driver, so whether I like it or not, this baby is gonna see some snow.

I know I need AT LEAST a set of 20" Winter tires (Pirelli or Blizzaks), but I am concerned of what the salt might do to the finish on my Polished Aluminum 20s.
Even though I live in Detroit, I grew up in Miami, so winter car-care is kinda new to me. I do not want to mess up my RS wheels, so I am also considering a set of wheels (black painted) and tires (20" or other) to protect my investment.

Will a 20" wheel and tire package, with the same width as my stock RS wheels be a good choice for winter?? Or will it be better to get a 18" or 19" wheel and tire package ?? Which will be safer in snow ???

Ideally I'd like to keep the same 20" diameter, so my car doesn't look like shit for half the year. But its not worth it if i'll be more likely to loose control on these winter roads. SO IM LOOKING FOR ADVICE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE DEALT WITH THIS ON THEIR OTHER CARS. PLEASE NO GUESSING/SPECULATION, AS THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY CAMARO ARE AT STAKE !! :('

Thanks everyone !

I am going with a 18" rim and a thicker winter tire. I live in our winters are ridiculous.

Doesn't one want narrower tires to help cut through the snow rather than wider tires?

That is what I have heard..... about the narrower tires. But then if i get narrow tires, will I have a strange looking offset on the rear ??? I'd hate to have this thing looking funny for half the year, with skinny looking tires under than big ol' ass.

I posted this in a different thread, but I am getting the 18 inch heritage steelies that come standard on the LS so I don't think they'll look too off.

I went with 20" Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-60s 245/45R20 and Sport Edition ST4 Rims from Tirerack - see this thread for details. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41966. Everyone I got feedback from said do not use the summer RS rims as the wear & tear of removing the summers for the winters over time will impact the Rims. While not happy about spending the extra $ for the Rims/TPMS it was either that or park it which I can't readily do...

You can put skinnier 225/60's on the 18's to narrow it up.
