downpipes

hey all, ive decided im going to be getting highflow cat downpipes. was wondering, whats the difference between the hooker downpipes and the solo? why are the solo so much more expensive?

Solo's down pipes include resonators whereas Hooker's and others' do not. The resonators help deepen the tone/reduce rasp so it all comes down to sound - performance differences are minute if any.

Interested in an answer to the last question as well... Have my xpipe on order and want to do downpipes as well. Wondering if I can get away with hookers without terrible drone.

I got my X-Pipe in today and am combining it with the MBRP Axle Back Exhaust. After listening to tons and tons of YouTube Videos, I felt like the MBRP had the best "lower-rumble" sound and hope that the addition of the Magnaflow will give it an even deeper sound.

Can't say from personal experience but from what I've read, if you were to keep your factory resonators (and no mufflers) then you may still get a bit of rasp even with the resonated X-pipe but only at high RPMs. Also from what I've read the resonated X-pipe tends to reduce drone so even with Hooker downpipes you should be fine as long as you have resonators/mufflers somewhere.

Personally I went with the resonated X-pipe and then went 2.5" pipe back, so got rid of the factory resonators and mufflers, and it sounds pretty good; a bit of drone but not much, and I still have the factory cats. I plan to go with Solo because I'd likely get a terrible raspy sound due to the lack of resonators/mufflers, and also the resonators will help deepen the tone which I prefer.

For those with an axle-back and resonated X-pipe you'd probably be fine with non-resonator downpipes.

You guys should check into American Raceing Headers high flow cat down pipes, there $475. If your getting the magnaflow resonated x-pipe, you won't need the extra resonator on the Solo's, because you have it on the pipe. You guys should page one page back and read the ARH catless down pipes thread by BooSTedFOST. It has endless info on all kinds of exhaust setups with people that did different options and review there setups. Check it out. There some invaluable information there!

I second the recommendation for the ARH high flow cats. I just installed them and love them! I have the MF resonated X-pipe, I didn't delete the stock resonators, and I have the MRT v2 exhaust and I have very little drone. About the same drone as the MRT v2 exhaust before I installed the x-pipe. I have info, pictures, and videos in the following thread:

My understating is somewhere between 20-25hp if it is your first modification from stock. Since this is not my first bolt on mod, I doubt I saw the full amount. However, it feels noticeably different. The butt dyno is very impressed!

if you buy the solos you dont need a resonated x pipe. they have no rasp to them from my experiences.
