SP Headers - Removing the Steering Shaft - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I am going to install a set of Stainless Power LT Headers on my 2015 SS/1LE this weekend. The directions on the Stainless website say to remove the steering shaft. I have been told that this is not a necessary step. I'd rather not mess with the steering shaft if I don't have to. Can anyone give some advice about whether or not I need to remove it or can the headers be easily installed without disconnecting the steering?

Correct as long as you have a good lift you can install without removing

I never touched my steering shaft and installed my headers off the back of a trailer. Took the center wood out and drove up the back. You shouldn't have to remove the steering shaft as there should be plenty of room. Some headers need to be dimpled because of their close proximity to the shaft. Keep this in mind and verify if needed before completly installing.

I installed my stainless works headers without disconnecting the steering shaft. I had a lift, but I would think it's still possible with a good set of taller jack stands too.

I didn't have to bother with the steering shaft for my headers either.

I disconnected mine, its easy to do then put back together, installed on jack stands

I did mine without removing the shaft. You might need to adjust the engine mounts so that the headers do not touch the shaft.

I removed mine because the shorty headers that were on the car when I bought it required the steering shaft to be removed to remove them. It's one bolt and you can slide the shaft up towards the steering wheel. If you do remove the shaft make sure your steering wheel is pointed straight and not cocked at all. Otherwise it can be a pain to get back together.

just installed my headers yesterday. you dont need to remove it at all. maybe the dip stick thats about it. i would suggest using your oem gaskets tho. the ones i got were garbage.

I had to undo mine because I put the headers on using rhino ramps. If you get the front end high enough you shouldn't have to undo it.

Hopefully you have hi flow cats and the stainless works retro chambered exhaust!
Setup without either is very raspy, but with cats and retro chambered exhaust it's very deep at all rpms unlike other exhausts I've heard with long tubes ��
