Help, I can't find my cam!

Looking for a cam, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get it, and get it done. I think i might go with the GMPP LS stage II cam. the intake and exhaust lift is .551, the duration is .227 in and .239 out, and the LSA is only 108. The LSA is what has me worried, Is this going to be too rough of an idle to be street worthy, I'm not woried about shaking because that's just cool. I just don't want the car stalling or something like that everytime I leave a stop light. The lift is not overly aggressive, the duration is prety healthy though. Because this is an LS7 Cam what other parts am I going to have to buy other than the Cam like springs, retainers, lifters and pushrods. I've looked on other blogs and no one even mentions any of this stuff. I read the issue in hot rod where they did the cam swap but it didn't look like they even touched the lifters or the push rods. Any help anyone can give me would be awesome.

Do you have an LS3 or L99?

If its a LS3 read this article
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...son/index.html

If Its a L99 here is a good primer article (though you might have to remove the AFM)

You should upgrade to hardened push rods and a better set of springs. That should be done no matter what the cam swap. If teh motor is still very new, like most of us, your lifters are OK.....If you are over a couple thousand miles, you may want to change the lifters also, that is just a good practice.

I have an LS3. I did look at the article that Patrick gave the link to. It was pretty informative. I have been looking at one of the single bolt LSR cams from comp as well. the one i'm looking at is PN 146-458-11, it seems like it would be pretty streetable based off of the article from patrick. Can any of you guys tell me if the Comp cams valve springs sets come with retainers or if it is just springs? I really don't want to have to spend 500 dollars on springs and retainers.

Yea, I liked the article as well. Personally, I’ve been watching the VVT cam development as close as I can.
This guy at Comp cams should be able answer all your questions and set you up. William Hood [whood@compcams.com]
Email him the thread and I’m sure he will help you out with the Comp parts.
One more article.

This was a AFM delete cam (what had gotten my attention), so you don’t need all these parts, and this was profiled as a blower cam, but these guys have been doing a lot of work on the Camaro LS3 as well.

I don't think you should get a cam...waste of time and money imho I'd much rather you stay where you're at so when I get the longtubes, intake and tune, I can blow your doors off

Sorry dude it is going to happen, you might as well get your headers and cai put on now, or you could wait and we could schedule are cars at jannetty @ the same time. but never the less this is going to happen. I think you should just go ahead and get a cam too. you know you will sooner or later, it may as well be sooner than later.(lol)

Dude, that's a lot of money! May as well get a supercharger. Cost's twice as much, but you get more then twice the gains. I'm contemplating switching over the internals to basically make this a LS3. No "you should have gotten a manual" comments either! I like being able to just punch it and go

I wasn't going ot say anything about you not getting a MANual. I think you should just go ahead and get a blower. If you have the money I don't see any reason not to.

Cobra,
Too bad you are not in the area, there is this guy in Frederick Md. Who has a performance shop specializing in Camaros.
He could have installed one at a reasonable rate. (he did my headers and exhaust among other things) Once I select the VVT cam I want, he will install that too.
His personal ride is an LS3 camaro, and he could not find one he really liked so he had a LS builder design one tailored to his application.
Even if you are too far to have him install it, he could put you a kit together with his grind that I’m sure would make you smile
http://www.tandtperformance.com/ give him a call, Hes also on Camaro5 as TRSC1970
