It will let the coolant flow sooner which will keep your car running cooler. A cooler engine will make more power to a point. You should also also get a tune to turn the fans on sooner with a 160 degree stat.

These motors make great power at 200 degrees. Don't know if a 160 T-stat would even help that much. That would be a good question for Ted Jannety. I have my fans set to turn on low at 190 and high at 200. Car never sees over 205.

Make sure you know that "tuning" anything or changing any stock calibration to an aftermarket setting will void your PT warranty. I just want to toss that out there for you. Tune if you want, or keep your warranty.

Or find the right dealer...They are out there. "As long as you flash it back stock I don't care" From my service advisor...

i think a 180 is better for daily driving as opposed to a 160. -- tuned.

If you have simple mods I wouldn't get a thermostat there would really be no gains for you. They are more helpfully when you have like a turbo or supercharger that makes the motor run a little hotter. As for the tune voiding your warranty, this isn't a Nissan GTR so just make sure you have a stock tune on a programmer so you can flash it before you take it in.

also with a new car the computers are programed to run rich to warm the motor up faster(its another emission thing) so with a lower t-stat you will stay in warm up mode and do nothing but lose mpgs. t-stats are really only useful on older cars

Not sure about this statement. The ECM does dip the timing into the gutter to warm up the cats, this allows the car to go into closed loop within about 5 seconds. Having a richer mixture would actually do the opposite.

My tuner set mine up the same way, rather than change the t stat. Car runs cooler and still plenty of heat for HVAC
