z-28 or SS

From reading a lot of posts I hear people saying the z-28 will/might have more preformence than the SS. Many saying the SS will have the LS3 and the Z-28 would have the CTS-V's new motor. Am I wrong or has an SS always been the top option in years it has been availble?

yes but most people believe the ss badging is overrated. When you hear Z28 you KNOW its a camaro. When you hear SS, it could be HHR Cobalt Silverado.. anything.

I know they have over used the SS badge on a lot of cars...Malibu SS comes to mind, as does Cobalt SS. But SS is still SS. What better way to get it back than with a powerful 400+ hp Camaro SS? I'm ok withwhat ever, as long as it has a LS#

Hmmm If the base camaro is the SS then you are correct about 400 hp......

But top dog is suspected to get 500+hp.

I dont know, i just think ss is lacking meaning. Z28 means something, and it should mean top dog. just my lil opinion though

I love it that everyone is thinking that the base V-8 will have over 400 hp. Very exciting!

All I was saying is that in 2002 the SS had more horsepower than the Z-28 and that in the earlier years it had more. I really don't care what it is. I know that Z-28 has been applied a lot more model years than SS has; I just thought that when it was applied SS was the high preformence option. Either way, its going to be a great car!

Yes, through the 4th generation, the Camaro SS has always trumped the Z-28, however, there are indicators this may change with the 5th gen, with the 480-500+ HP Z-28 if it ever makes production. The new Camaro SS is expected to be approximately 405 hp.

1967- 1969 SS 396 = more horsepower than the Z/28 302, not to mention the rare 427 engines...COPO, Yenko, Baldwin etc.

Not to mention the last gen..... SS more = hp

The Z was underrated at 290 HP, and most believe it was closer to 400, more than the SS's 375. Yenko, Baldwin, etc were COPO cars, not SS's, they started out as base V8 cars.

First gen:
Z28 - race car
SS - drag car
Win: none - each were best at their jobs
Early Second gen:
Z28 - 350
SS - 396 BB
Win: SS - the Z lost a lot of its 'special' features
Middle Second gen:
Z28 - None
SS - None
We all lost
Late Second gen:
Z28 weak 350 @ 190 HP
SS - None
Win: Z28 - SS forfeit
Third gen:
No SS
Win: Z28
Early fourth gen:
No SS
Win: Z28
Middle and Late 4th gen:
Win: SS clearly

I don't know who said it first, but I subscribe to "Any Chevy can be an SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z/28"

So, ONLY the Z was underated......yea... my point was it (Z) is not ALWAYS... more powerful than the SS was....
Z/28 is the way to go, let SS be a trim package, just make the Z/28 start at
under $30 and have options all the way up to the supercharger etc...
I had a loaded '02 Z/28 (paid $27k) I want another, but will not be able to pay $40k (as some have guessed) for the topdog

Alot of people forget what the SS was in the 60's. It was an apperance package more or less. You could get a v-6 mailibu SS. You don't see them that much, but it was possible.
