Issues with playing mp3's from USB memory

Is it normal when you play MP3's from a USB memory stick, that the radio plays in alphabetical order? I'd like to change the default to play by folder, similar to my kenwood DNX 7120 nav system I have in the other car.

I found I could search by albums but then when I go in there the system doesn't list the files in order of the album. For example, track 1 is not listed first and it appears to pick some arbitrary value.

Last but not least, is it normal for Mp3's that do not have an ID3 tag to cause the radio to not display anything, unable to fast forward the song, and cause the song to skip?

I discovered this glitch with some older Mp3's that I had. I've had to unplug the USB memory and plug it back in because the song starts to skip, or just freezes.

Yes. You have to go in and select your play options each time you start the car. It does not remember this.

It's not arbitrary although it sure does often seem it. I believe it's using track name or possibly file name (don't remember).

Not normal but not suprising. I have a few tracks that just display the file name on the radio instead of ID3 info and they don't cause it to crash or what not.

Basically, the USB interface software sucks. Lot's of threads on this including a FAQ that covers some of it.

I have some MP3's that merely skip and lock up the radio. I have to unplug the USB thumb drive and plug it back in for it to go to the next song.

Most of the issues seem to be with files that do not have an ID3 tag.

These files do not lock up my kenwood though.

I'm guessing that there's other problems with them other than not having an ID3 tag. You'd probably be best re-ripping them or converting them to another format and converting back or finding a program to 'repair' them. I'm not sure I've ever had my PDIM lock up but 99% of my songs are about as clean/good as it gets.

I used a couple of programs to check the files, and indeed there were some problems with them.

Somehow in the transfer it scrambled the files. The files played from the USB drive to my computer in Winamp screwed up as well. Only difference, winamp can continue on with it.

Since these files played fine on my PC, I never suspected that they were going to get scrambled in the transfer to flash memory.

ID3 tags do help for other issues such as not seeing what song is playing.

Okay, I have an issue with the player recognizing ID3 tags on some MP3 files, but not recognizing anything on others. I suspect that it's a tag versioning issue. Does anyone know which ID3 tag version (ID3v1, ID3v1.1, et cetera) the MP3 "MyLink" player supports?

I would suspect the latest version available.

I don't know the default for Media Monkey, which I use on my PC, but I used MM to ensure all of my tag info was correct and all files had album art. Everything works as expected.

In any case, the versions are interchangeable (ie: newer versions support everything in older versions). So most likely, even though the files are tagged (regardless of version), some info could be missing. I would spend the time to fix your entire collection, or at a minimum, what you put in the car.
